4/04/19

Committed to Wichita State. Showed an upper 80's fastball and and 73-75 mph curveball from a high 3/4 delivery. Shaver showed good poise and composure on the mound while his defense struggled in the early innings.  His powerful lower half allows his arm to get on top of both the fastball and the breaking ball and it is apparent that his velocity will increase as he gets older, his delivery is clean and he doesn't seem to overthrow and appears very comfortable with his delivery.

3/10/19

A 6-foot-4, 205-pound solid right hand pitching prospect who has a max effort delivery with good balance on the back side, creates shoulder tilt and drives down the mound. Has a high ¾ arm slot, finishes downhill with intent. The Fastball peaked at 87 MPH, Curve was 73-75 MPH was sharp spin down in the zone and Change was 76-77 MPH was above average with some sink. The 2019 RHP has a projectable frame and mechanics to increase his numbers going forward.

11-20-19
Derek Shaver (Grand Junction; Wichita State) lands back in the top 10 checking in at No. 4. After an ACL injury sidelined Shaver in 2019, Shaver worked hard to get back into baseball shape and had a successful summer and fall circuit. His increased size and strength was evident. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound, physically-advanced, athletically built, right-handed hitter, could arguably have the best bat in the class. On the mound, Shaver can also run his fastball up 87-88 mph.

5-13-17
6-foot-3, 178-pound right hand hitting MIF/RHP.  Shaver went 1-3 at the plate, he is a good looking prospect with power to all fields.  Playing second base this game, he turned two double plays using quick hands and a strong arm on the exchange.  He is athletic and covers good ground in the field ranging into the hole twice to take away sure base hits.

8-30-16

6-foot-3, 178 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has a balanced athletic stance with gap to gap power. Swing is level through the zone with good lower rotation. Big shortstop with good range. Lower 80's arm across the diamond. On the mound is athletic, throws from over the top arm slot. Fastball sits lower 80's.
