1/18/20

Strong and athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. Moves well laterally behind the plate blocking with strong hands receiving. Quick footwork and clean exchange to 2nd base with pop times to 2.0-2.18. Balanced setup at the plate with short leg kick to create rhythm in the swing. Has a level bat path and hits gap to gap with some pull side power.

8/06/19

Stapleton has continued to impress and surprising he is still available. He has continued to lean out his body and defensively he is well above average. Athletic receiver and blocker with catch and throw ability. Pop times ranged in the 1.95-1.98 range. Offensively, really sinks into the lower half. Can create some swing and miss in the path, but there is athleticism and bat speed. An above average defensive catcher, with offensive upside, that should be a quality addition.

2/11/19

At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, he appears to have leaned out the frame some. Translated well defensively, where he looks more comfortable in the setup with added flexibility. Hands work well and is a solid receiver. Pop times ranged from 2.078-2.16. Offensively, he sinks into the back side after clearing it. Could benefit from a firmer front side, but there is present strength especially in the lower half. Has some bat to ball skills with some strength and offensive upside.

8/15/18

Uncommitted. Stocky, solid frame standing at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. His overall game has made some jumps over the summer. During BP, he found the barrel often and showed present gap-to-gap power, consistently driving the ball deep into the gaps. Showed some pull side power as well. Behind the plate, he keeps everything in front on him and showed some strong wrists, receiving the ball well and sticking pitches. Stapleton looks to be much more comfortable in the box and as a solid defender, will be a good uncommitted follow heading into the fall.

7/14/18

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11,190 pounds with a strong, stocky frame. Displays present catch, throw and receive skills. The pop times ranged from 1.98-2.01 and were consistently on the bag. The tools translate to above average defensive ability in game play. Offensively, he uses his strong lower half, sinking into the back leg. Could benefit from a stronger front side, but has a natural uphill path, feel for barrel and gap to gap power.

1/27/18

Uncommitted. Currently stands 5-foot-10, 190 pounds with a stocky, athletic build. Defensively behind the plate his throws were accurate to the bag and topped out at 74 mph. Works to keep the ball in front of him. Offensively, he was quick to the ball with a strong lower half showing power gap-to-gap. Looks to drive the ball with authority and square it up. Registered an exit velocity of 89 mph in the cage. He recorded a 60-yard dash time of 8.03 seconds.

8/06/17

The stocky, 5-10, 190 pound catcher has your prototypical sturdy catchers frame. He consistently has shown above average defensive actions. His hands work, although can get late into the proper receiving position, as he continues to refine his receiving skills he should become an above average receiver. He has a quality arm, but quick feet, quick transfer and accurate throws help him throw runners out with his best time being 1.96. Offensively, he stays stacked in the lower half, he can almost invert almost too much at times. He has some natural loft and the strong lower half has some present power with power potential.

7/26/17

Stapleton has continued to improve each time we have seen him. He has a stocky, catcher’s build, with a strong lower half. Defensively, he has a quality setup and shows actions that project to be an above average defensive catcher in the future. His hands work, he could improve his hip mobility which would put him in better position receiving on a consistent basis. He has a strong arm and quick transfer which translated to the game with a caught stealing with a 2.14 pop time. Offensively, he stay loaded on the back side. He has some length at times, but when he is short to the ball he creates present gap-to-gap power with more to come. This translated to the game with a hard hit single.

6/01/17

Appears to have added some strength in his lower half. Defensively, he has above average receiving skills, consistently getting in quality positions. He tends to sit a bit high, but has a clean, quick transfer and an above average arm resulting in pop times ranging 1.96-2.02. At the plate, from an open stance, he stays a bit overloaded on the back side at times. He stays in his legs well and has a feel for the barrel with a gap to gap approach. He has some length, but as he continues to shorten the swing consistently, the power should improve as well.

1/21/17

Stapleton’s defensive skills behind the plate are advanced, and he has the quick hands necessary, at the plate, to make adjustments quickly at the next level. With loose hips, Stapleton presents a wide target, and has solid hands when receiving. His pop times were very quick (1.93-1.95) thanks to strong footwork and a quick transfer. Stapleton’s arm is only going to get stronger as he continues to mature which will lower an already impressive pop time. At the plate, Stapleton can get heavy on his backside at times, but has quick hands that drive strong through the zone. Currently sporting line drive power, Stapleton shows signs of continued growth to his 5-foot-8, 160-pound frame, and will likely have gap to gap power in the future. Overall, Stapleton is still very young, and his bat will need some time to mature, but his defensive skills are already next level material.

9/23/16

Underclass games participant continued to impress especially defensively. He again showed a consistent 2.05-2.1 pop times that were accurate each and every time. He has a feel for the position with flexibility and strength in his wrist to receive well. Offensively, he shows his bat speed but at time blocks himself off with his lower half. When he learns to fully utilize his lower half, the path and bat speed should translate to gap-to-gap power and more.

9/17/16

The athletic 5-foot-8, 160 pound catcher showed a lot of upside throughout the day. The right handed hitter, from an open stance showed a level line drive swing during batting practice. Quick hands produced above average bat speed, consistently finding the barrel driving the ball from gap-to-gap. Defensively, he showed above average actions both in the workout and the game. With a very quick, clean consistent transfer and above average arm he had pop times ranging from 2.02-2.08 with room to shave that by working on staying in line with his footwork. This also translated to the game, throwing out two runners with strong and accurate throws. He projects to be a plus defensive catcher and above average offensive player. Overall, very intriguing prospect that could be a high end player as he progresses.
