5.23.14 - Currently ranked No. 55 in Illinois’ 2014 class, No. 260 overall. 5-foot-10, 170 pound frame with not much projection left. Hits from a slightly open stance, shows good balance in load with lower half, minimal stride gets back square. Hands held high stay relaxed in pre-pitch. Singled in first at bat, and shows whole-field approach. Grounded out to short, sac fly to right in third at bat. Triple off the base of the wall in right field scoring the eventual game winner in the top half of the sixth. Shows the ability to hit the ball with authority to opposite field. Defensively shows soft hands, fielding the ball out front. Ranges well up the middle and to his right, made an extremely tough play in the hole. Showed average arm strength on this day, and got saved by first baseman on errant high throw. Arm has showed 82-85 velocity off the mound, and not easy being everyday shortstop plus rotation stalwart. Gritty  and tough ball player, rolled ankle on a ground ball single up the middle in the seventh, stayed in the game despite being in obvious pain, and ended up making a spectacular run through play for the second out of the inning that helped stop any Peoria Notre Dame rally. 

4/20/13 Defensively shows soft hands, quick release and a strong arm. Arm plays well, shows carry to its target, also plays athletically from multiple slots. Shows the ability to play on the move, athletic feet and release, solid body control.Short quick swing, looks to work the middle of the field, athletic hands offensively.

10/21/12 - Wood showcased a well-rounded game. Wood showed solid actions in the field showing fluid body control showing the ability to release the baseball freely while on the move. A strongly built 5-foot-8, 160-pound athlete; Wood used a balanced setup with a slight leg kick to get into his hitting position. He showed a short bat path producing line drives and showing good balance throughout. On the mound, Wood operates from a ¾ arm slot, showcasing a quick loose arm that works well. He showed solid athleticism in his delivery with direction to the plate. Wood’s fastball showed control down in the zone with late sinking action at 82-85 mph. Wood throws his curveball hard at 72-75 mph on an 11/5 plane thrown with solid arm speed. His change up showed feel at 73-74 mph that was thrown for strikes with arm side run.
