3.21.17 - Indiana State commit. 6-foot-3, 160-pound, athletically built, highly projectable right-handed pitcher with long and loose levers. Currently ranked No. 23 in the Illinois’ 2017 class. Made his first start of the season for Brother Rice. Pounded the zone in his 4+ innings of work. Used a fastball/curveball combination to keep hitters off balance throughout. Rocker step delivery, fluid rhythm throughout, athletic, repeats, stays on-line and lands closed. Loose, whippy, clean arm action from a high ¾ slot. Impressive first inning of work; struck out the side. Fastball sat sat mainly 88-89, T90 mph in the first. Velocity steadily declined from there, sat mostly 83-86 mph after the second inning. Fastball works mostly straight, fills up the strike zone, works down, had finish through the zone early in the outing. Threw a steady diet of curve-balls throughout. Consistently thrown for strikes, 11/5 action, solid depth and spin given the frigid temperatures; sat 71-75 mph. In 4.1 innings pitched, Guzek struck out 10, allowed two hits, no runs and walked one. Highly projectable right-handed pitcher in the 2017 class.

5.28.16 - Indiana State recruit. 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed pitcher, projectable athletic frame, strong build, big upside. One inning relief stint, 10 pitches, struck out two. Delivery is athletic and directional, good tempo, attacked hitters. Clean quick arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 87-89 mph, mostly 89 mph, showed an ability to command it to his glove side, finished with life through the hitting zone, live fastball. Curveball played at 70-73 mph, aggressive arm action, threw confidently, swing and miss potential. Will need to see more of Guzek this summer but showed impressive stuff in a short stint, athletic upside body and live arm, possible 2017 draft follow.

4.21.15 - 6-foot-3, 160-pound lanky and athletic young right-hander, works from a short, quick, clean, high ¾ arm slot, impressing with feel for three pitches. Fastball sat mostly 79-80 mph throughout game, touching 81 and 82 mph early on. Works from the first base side of the rubber, stride direction lands in line with home plate, lands closed at foot strike, so at times cuts fastball away from RHH’s to glove side. Also displays some run on fastball, particularly away to LHH’s. Confident in 64-67 mph curveball, thrown for strikes early in the count, 11/5 shape, consistent break, currently lacks power, but has feel. Slows arm slightly on 68-70 mph changeup, showed bottom, thrown down and away to LHH’s. Guzek is rail thin, very athletic, his quick and clean arm action and projectable build bode well for future velocity gains as he continues to mature. Already has a good feel for pitching, ranked No. 27 in IL’s 2017 class, high follow prospect to watch for the next several years.

1.15.15 - 6-foot-3, 160 pound right-handed pitcher will be in consideration as one of the most projectable right-handed arms in the 2017 class. Guzek has late life on an 81-83 mph fastball from a short, quick, high ¾ arm slot. For a young, long limbed pitcher he repeats his delivery well, 71 mph changeup shows plus feel and arm side run. Also flashes a 67-69 mph curveball for strikes. Guzek shows an uphill swing at the plate, soft hands at third base, threw 81 mph across the diamond. Previously unranked by PBR, Guzek will rank high when our 2017 class rankings are updated after the winter showcase circuit.

Committed to Iowa out of Gulf Coast State College

10/9/2018:6-foot-4, 215-pound, right-handed pitcher, lanky XL frame with room for added mass. Loose arm action from a high slot. Repeats delivery with athleticism, works on-line, lands toe-closed. Fastball sat 89-92, high volume of strikes with. Curveball, 74-76, 11/5 shape, depth.
