10.11.15 - 5-foot-9, 165-pound athletic body right-handed hitting infielder and outfielder. Flashed some of the better tools at the event. Ran a 6.87 60 yard dash. Offensively, showed some bat speed and registered an exit velocity of 89 mph. Starts from a balanced and open setup position. Slight pre-pitch load, short stride and good balance through contact. Uphill bat path through the hitting zone. Defensively, athletic actions in the outfield. Fluid footwork, clean exchange, long arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate clocked at 84 mph. On the infield, soft hands, athletic fielding position, out front. Fluid footwork and shorter arm action, clocked at 78 mph across the infield.
2.15.15 - 5-foot-9, 170-pound athletic right-handed hitting MIF/OF, committed to Missouri, hits from a crouched, open setup, short stride, long, uphill bat path, bat speed evident, fast twitch, 90 mph exit velocity off the tee, line drives with pull tendencies during batting practice. Defensively, threw 88 mph from the outfield from long, high ¾ arm slot, soft hands fielding the baseball, two-seam run on throws. Threw 81 mph across the diamond from shortstop from, slightly shorter, arm action, soft hands fielding, stays back on the ball at times. Ran a 6.74 60.
1.19.14 - 5-foot-9, 155-pound athletic, fast twitch athlete who projects well at the next level. Showed high-quality foot speed, running a 6.8 60. Foot speed translates well in the outfield as he showed crisp routes to the ball. Arm works loose, from over-the-top at 80 mph with carry and accuracy. On the infield showed the same quick footwork with clean hands and above average, athletic infield actions. Arm works at 76 mph across the diamond with carry and accuracy. At the plate he hits from an open stance. Uses the lower half well and maintains balance through contact. Swing has rhythm, slight uphill path with quality extension, above average bat speed and solid barrel whip. Exit velocity was 79 mph off the tee.
7/23/13 - Gaines recorded three hits, frequently making hard contact throughout two Top Prospect Games. Has a small, athletic 5-foot-7, 145-pound build and runs well (4.33 home-to-first). Showed a smooth swing with good mechanics at the plate and bat speed, a level path, and balance (79 mph exit off the tee). Gaines has the potential to drive the gaps as he fills out. He displayed overall athleticism defensively in the outfield, throwing 77 mph from the outfield with some carry. Additionally, Gaines made one of the more instinctual plays of the event covering first from right-field on a rundown. Gaines is a prospect to follow as he develops.
6/13/12 Gaines is a 5-foot-5, 135-pound outfielder who displayed good routes to the baseball and was clocked at 67 mph. Offensively, Gaines has a balanced set up with a smooth load. He displayed a good approach at the plate and found occasional barrel. Additionally, Gaines ran a 7.22 60.
