The Griffins made a surprising run to the Class 4A supersectionals in large part because of Chemello’s emergence as the team’s dominant No. 1. The right-hander finished with a 9-1 record, which included a critical complete-game shutout against rival Lincoln-Way North in sectionals. Chemello, who fills up the zone with three pitches, ended with a 1.88 ERA with 47 strikeouts to 7 walks in 52 innings last spring.
