6/19/14 - Strong bodied, 6-foot-1, 185-pound two-way player. On the mound delivery is compact, short arm action, over the top slot. Fastball showed run at 82-84 mph. Curveball showed some depth, 68-71 mph. Slider showed later, flatter action, 75-77 mph. Changeup sat 71-72 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, no stride approach. Made hard contact, showed the ability to impact the baseball. Strong swing, 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively used a short over the top arm slot on the infield, 82 mph across the diamond.
2/16/14 6-foot, 180-pound athletic body two way player. Defensively, his arm works long and loose from a high ¾ slot at 81 mph with accuracy. At the plate he hits from a balanced setup with quiet load and no stride, maintaining balance through contact. Bat speed is above average and in the zone for an extended amount of time. Exit velocity was 84 mph off a tee. On the mound he uses an athletic, tall and fall delivery with some rhythm and regular effort. Arm works long, loose, and quick from a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 82-83 mph, for strikes, with flashes of run. Throws a 12/6 curveball at 69-71 mph. Slider showed different action than the curveball, sitting 76-79 mph with bite. Changeup was 69-71 mph with sinking action.

6.26.13 Phipps displayed good athleticism as a two way player. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Phipps has a deceptive delivery on the mound, with short, quick arm speed and good rhythm. His fastball was thrown down in the zone with arm side run in the 76-78 mph range, topping at 80-mph. He also showed a 66-69 mph breaking all that had 11-to-5 shape with tight spin and two plane break. Phipps also threw a 67-69 mph change up with some sink. In the field, Phipps showed fluid footwork and sure hands while playing through the ball. His throws across the diamond were accurate, with a top throw of 77-mph. At the plate, Phipps has loose hands and takes a uphill path to the ball, showing ability to make consistent contact, with a top exit velocity of 77 mph off the bat. Phipps also had one of the top 60 times, running a 7.06.
