4.28.15 - Unsigned senior, physical 6-foot-3, 230-pound right-handed pitcher. Thick workhorse-type frame, wide shoulders, strong lower half. Has made significant strides on the mound over the last year, and now looks to be one of the better unsigned senior arms in the state. Opened the game sitting 87-88 with a few 89s and touched 90 once. Settled in the 85-87 range for next few innings, and finished five-inning outing at 84-86. (In August at a PBR event, Richey’s fastball was 81-84 mph.) When he gets over his front side and has extension, fastball showed heavy arm-side finish at times. Works from high-3/4 slot with short takeaway; stays tall and works downhill well. Threw fastball for consistent strikes. Curveball ranged between 69-74 mph with inconsistent shape. Slows arm action down on pitch, flashed occasional depth when thrown harder. Showed changeup in 78-79 range, but didn’t need it at all. Overall, had dominating performance against Lutheran South. Allowed one infield hit, struck out seven and walked one in five innings. High school coach said he’s been doing this all spring long. Good student, interested in engineering.

8.6.14 6-foot-2, 230-pound right-handed pitcher, extra-large frame, wide shoulders, thick lower half, impressed with feel for three pitches.  Works from short, quick, high ¾ arm slot, gets over rubber at balance point, tall and fall delivery, up-tempo rhythm, rushing at times towards the plate.  Shoulders stay level throughout delivery, stride direction stays in line with home plate, but opens up lower half early.  Fastball sat 81-83 mph, touching 84 on his final pitch.  12/6 downer curveball sat between 68-70 mph and flashed occasional, above average depth.  Slows arm some on 66-69 mph changeup with arm side run.
