7.7.12
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Stoner possessed perhaps the state’s purest left-handed swing. His athleticism and ability to hit for power from the left side led him to being selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. Stoner signed shortly after the draft, foregoing his scholarship to Southern Illinois University.  Also a solid catcher, Stoner has been a big run-producer for the last two seasons. As a senior, Stoner helped lead the Titans to a second consecutive NIC-10 championship by batting .461 with 44 RBI. He tallied 9 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs while being pitched around for much of the season. Stoner walked 31 times and finished with a .643 on-base percentage and struck out 16 times. When Stoner’s offensive prowess wasn’t as well-known as a junior, he compiled a .495 batting average with 9 home runs and 40 RBI.

Hit .512 with 8 homers and 9 doubles as a junior ... The athletically built 6-foot-4, 194-pound Stoner showed once again why he is one of the most gifted left-handed hitters in the state. Stoner has an advanced plate approach, using an athletic setup and a quick, loose swing to the ball while staying tall through contact. He gets excellent extension and the ball jumps off his bat. He has big left-handed power potential. Defensively, he showed quick feet and a strong arm (81 mph from the crouch), throwing a top pop time of 2.06. Stoner also showed off his athleticism by running a 7.19 60. The 6-foot-3, 188-pound Stoner very well be the most impressive left-handed hitter in the 2012 Class. Stoner has a quiet and compact plate approach, and is explosive through the hitting zone. The ball comes off his bat with excellent backspin carry and showed he can hit for power to all fields. Defensively, Stoner showed athletic feet as he registered a top pop time of 1.95. Stoner also ran a 7.28 60.
