2016 All-AVCTL-I - 1st Team

2/21/16 - Olmstead is a 6-foot 205-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and pitcher in Kansas’ 2017 class from Derby HS.  He ran a 4.45 home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, thin stance with hands walking away from stride, quick bat speed, swing produced line drives to middle of cage during batting practice.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick transfer and throw. On the mound showed very simple body movements and whippy low three-quarters arm action producing a fastball with arm-side running movement, sink when down, 78-81 mph. Breaking ball with 11/5 to 10/4 shape, 67-72 mph. The breaking ball rolled back arm-side some in today’s workout but it’s easy to see with his arm slot it becoming a sweeping type pitch to complement his sinking fastball well. Change-up has similar sinking action to fastball, works down with it, 69-72 mph.

2015 All-AVCTL-I - 1st Team

6/18/14 - Olmstead is a 6-foot, 177-pound right-hand hitting third baseman.  During the defensive evaluation part of camp he fielded everything cleanly and threw with clean, high three-quarters arm action.  His top throw was clocked at 72 mph.  At the plate he has a balanced set-up and slightly open stance.  He has a fluid hand load and uses a short, inline stride.  His hands work well and he has a middle-of-the-field approach.  Olmstead’s top exit velocity registered at 82 mph.  He collected one hit during the games.  Just entering his sophomore year he’s on the path to developing into an offensive third baseman with some juice.  His home-to-1B time was 4.74.
