3.25.15 Mother Nature has not been kind to Maryland so far but spring is right around the corner and Reservoir HS RHP Cody Morris made his debut in front of over a dozen scouts. As can be expected there was some rust, but the 6-foot-5 205-pound South Carolina commit sat 89-92 with late run mainly utilizing his fastball and overpowering the Hammond HS lineup in his three innings of work
Cody Morris, Reservoir HS, RHP 6-foot- 210lbs University of South Carolina commit.  The big RHP has been up to 94mph and is one of the most talked about arms in the state of Maryland for the 2015 draft.

4/18/18 - 6’5/230, Redshirt Soph- Brings a physical presence to the mound. Strong build with an extra large frame. Deceptive delivery, ball jumps on hitter. Lands heel/toe with open foot. Long armer who will fly open, causing his arm to drag. Overcomes how he does it to throw strikes. Has walked 18 in 49 innings this spring and just eight in 39 innings last season. His best pitch is a plus changeup at 81-82 mph. He has great feel for the pitch, repeated it for strikes within a small range of velocity. It’s a swing/miss pitch that has potential to be a ML out pitch. Typical spin rate for his sinking changeup is 1560-1750. Ran his fastball up to 95 mph, while sitting 92-93 throughout his five inning, 78 pitch outing. His fastball spin rate peaks around 2540. Third pitch is a slider at 77-78 mph. He only threw a handful on this day. Didn’t seem to trust the pitch. It showed tight rotation and snapped off well at the plate. However, it’s a pitch that may be difficult for him to control. His long arm action is a big factor for the consistency of this pitch since it can work against keeping the hand/fingers in the correct position in order to execute the pitch. Gets off the mound slow and will need to work hard at fielding his position. Without delivery improvements, Morris profiles as a back end bullpen arm. He has the potential to be selected anywhere from the fourth to sixth rounds as several teams begin to draft arms who profile as pro relievers in this round range. As a redshirt sophomore (missed his senior year of high school with Tommy John surgery and his freshman season at South Carolina) with two years of college eligibility remaining, he has some leverage. His signability will play a significant role in where he is ultimately selected.
