Cape Cod: Everyone carves their own path to success and Schuelke is no different. However, he is a bit more traveled than your typical pitching prospect. A Michigan prep who began his college career at Florida Gulf Coast CC, then D2 Northwood University (Mich.) and then onto the College of Central Florida, the 6-foot multi-slot right-hander continued to produce in the Cape this summer. The closer for the 2023 NJCAA Champion Central Florida, Schuelke struck out 48 while posting a 3.16 ERA in 14 games this summer for Cotuit. His 37 innings led the staff, and remarkably all came in relief. The 6-foot, 190-pounder fills the zone from mostly a submarine slot, but he’s also a slot-shifter and mixes in a sidearm and three-quarter look. From a submarine slot, his knuckle scraping fastball sits in the mid-80s with sink and his frisbee slider bends at 67-68 with spin in 2500-2600s. He’s a ground ball machine that is very tough on right-handed batters. When he shifts to a higher slot, he’ll mix in a curveball at 70-71 with good depth and bite. It will be interesting to see how his high level pitchability and deception play in the SEC, but get ready Starkville, you have another unicorn on campus to go along with Jurrangelo.

11/11/17

5-foot-10, 159  pound prospect on the mound steps back and pivots moving to his balance point waist high . Raises his throwing arm and throws from various arm angles. Mixed in a side arm fastball 73-75, high ¾ one that got up to 76-78 mph. Curve has a nice break from an 11/5 angle 67 mph . Side arm change up 64 mph. Commands the zone well from multiple arm angles. Understands how to mix it up. At the plate sets up with a wide stance with high hands. Uses a toe tap load and swings on a level bat path. Makes hard contact spraying the field. In the field moves light on his feet, showing good glove work, throwing with a lightning release.
