3/06/21

Strong, athletic and quick-twitch at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Halvorsen took the bump in Missouri’s third game in Frisco against Oklahoma. Staked to a 4-0 lead to start the game, he was KOd after 2.2 IP and six runs allowed. Dominant at times by shoving a 93-96 mph fastball (T97) and an 83-85 mph slider to the plate, he struggled with his control. His slider flashed plus and he also showed a second breaking pitch, this one more curveball shaped at 76-78. But, in the end it was his control and lack of fastball life that led to his early exit. Possessing weapons, but below average pitchability and a fastball that plays lighter than its velocity, Halvorsen profiles as a reliever in pro ball. Based on this and previous looks over the years, he is likely to hear his name called in the 3rd-5th round this July.

11/20/20

A tooled-up, quick-twitch athlete at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Halvorsen was ranked No. 1 in Minnesota and No. 51 overall as a prep for the 2018 draft. This spring he’s likely to start in center field and compete for a spot in the weekend rotation. He can be dominant at times on the bump with a 93-94 mph fastball and a late-action, 82-83 mph slider. In the field he’s a plus defender with a plus arm who covers gap to gap. He’s also a plus runner with a power stride and confident in his base stealing abilities. However, there is much swing/miss at the plate and despite plus raw power, his bat will likely limit him to the bottom third of the order. On the mound he is likely to receive mid-Day Two consideration.

7/11/17- PBRProCase- Missouri recruit, currently ranked No. 32 overall, No. 1 in Minnesota’s 2018 class. 6-foot-1, 195-pound two-way prospect, strong, athletic build with room for continued physical development.. Unassuming, hard-nosed quick-twitch athlete with high-level explosive tools. Continued to prove at the Midwest ProCase to be one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2018 class. Possesses top-of-the-scale arm strength, as he recorded an event-best 96 mph across the infield, then hopped on the mound and sat 91-93 with little effort. Legitimate two-way prospect, but his upside on the mound is undeniable. Relatively new to pitching, his delivery is simple, athletic and repeatable. Works from a high-3/4 slot, clean, compact and quick in the back, and explosive out front. Ball jumps out of his hand with relative ease, consistent strike thrower with arm-side life to fastball, works downhill well. Slider shows potential of being a go-to swing-and-miss offering. Throws it with conviction at 77-78 mph, flashes sharp, late 11/5 break. Also showed feel for 77-78 mph changeup. Positionally, likely profiles as third baseman. Features double-plus arm strength, lateral athleticism and above-average hands in the field. Ran a 6.82 laser-timed 60, powerful strider. Offensively, generates explosive bat speed with his hands, strength in swing, aggressive overall approach. Utilizes pronounced leg lift back, rhythm and athleticism throughout, tendency to be out front at times, flashes big power potential when on time. Registered 96 mph exit velocity with wood. In game, crushed a ball to right-center that was tracked down and singled. Overall, Halvorsen looks to be a high-level draft prospect as he continues to show more refinement in his game.

2016 Future Games- 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #61 ranked 2018 in PBR Overall. Lean athletic frame with wiry strength. Wide shoulders and will continue to add size and strength. Halvorsen ran a 6.95 60, was 92 mph across the infield, and recorded an 97 mph exit velocity. Square stance, leg kick trigger, aggressive approach, short to contact, short through zone occasionally with 2 hands on bat through contact, loud contact to mid/pull side of field. Well above avg. arm strength with carry and accuracy, long strides and athletic actions, fields with firm flat glove occasionally, above avg. range. Compact clean arm action, has body control with direction to plate, upright finish on release, repeats well, consistent strike thrower. Fastball shows life, on downhill plane, and jumps on hitter at 88-91 mph. Flashes sharp 1/7 breaking ball, shows in zone and takes away, with tight spin at 77-78 mph.

5/3/16- 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong projectable build. 7.19 runner. Showed best pop in bat at event, square stance, athletic set-up, minimal movement, easy stride, short to contact, short finish with 2-hands on bat, 87 mph exit velocity. Easy arm action with accuracy to bag; 84 mph arm strength. Soft glove, simple mechanics, avg. tempo, flashes athleticism when on the run. Strong Follow in 2018 class. Controlled delivery on mound, body control, with good sequence and rhythm. Clean arm action and throws with conviction. Fastball was straight at 79-81 mph; touching 83 mph for strikes. Avg. breaking ball with 11/5 shape. Changeup had flat action at 65-66 mph.
