6/9/15 - Wheeler is an athletic 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  Wheeler had pop times between 1.93 and 2.05, among the best of the day.  He also ran a 6.84 60 and had a 90 mph exit velo, both among the event’s best.  Behind the plate, quick actions with feet and hands, momentum towards second base, soft hands, 73 mph velo, mostly accurate throws.  At the plate, starts with feet closed, slight hand load, power to pull gap, level bat path, quick bat speed, solid single in game action, runs 4.52 home-to-first.

7/15/14 – Wheeler is an athletic 6-foot-0, 175-pound right-hand hitting catcher/first baseman. He ran a 60 at 7.28 and home-to-first 4.72. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with quick arm action. Alex’s throws were mostly accurate and had good carry. He showed a quick clean exchange on his throws. At catcher, Alex posted a POP range of 2.10-2.15. His position velo was 68 MPH at catcher and 65 MPH on the infield. At the plate, Wheeler has a closed setup. He starts with a smooth load and a long stride. He has a level bat path and looks to take the ball the other way. Alex's swing produces line drives. He had an exit velo of 85 MPH.
