6/9/15 - Sems is a projectable 6-foot-1 150-pound left-handed hitting SS/RHP.  At the plate, Sems starts in a balanced position slightly open, has a smooth load and small leg kick.  He has a level path to extension, uses both gaps, pull power, balanced finish. Posted one of the top left-handed exit velos at 88 mph, hit a double and single during game action, runs a 7.19 60. On the mound, Sems showed command of three pitches in the zone.  Fastball at 78-81 mph, tight 11-to-5 curveball at 61-64 mph, and change-up at 69-73 mph with arm side release.  He has a simple delivery that allows him to repeat, hit his spots and challenge hitters.  Sems stays in line as he gets down the mound and lands in an athletic position.  Every pitch he threw was in the strike zone.

10/25/14 – Sems is an athletic 6-foot-0, 142-pound left-hand hitting shortstop. Home-to-first time of 4.65 and a 60 time of 7.44. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, throws are very accurate with a quick release, aggressive on his approach to the ball, plays through the ball, solid footwork and soft hands, position velo was 78 mph. At the plate, Ben has an athletic setup with a long stride, good balance through his swing and fast bat speed, shows ability to hit to all fields, consistent quality contact during batting practice. Ben consistently squared, exit velo of 85 mph

8/25/13 - In the infield, the 5-foot-9, 125-pound Sems showed to be a confident fielder, with good footwork and smooth fielding mechanics. He displayed soft hands with a clean release and accurate throws across the diamond from a high ¾ arm slot. His top throw was 70-mph. At the plate, Sems has a smooth, easy swing and showed ability to barrel up the ball while showing good use of the middle part of the field. His top exit velocity off the bat was 77-mph.

8/21/19: Left-handed hitting shortstop who showed better than average arm strength from all angles. He’s confident on the dirt with good hands and fluid actions. At the plate he takes a hard stride and hits around the ball. He does show average bat speed which produces near average raw power, but it doesn’t yet translate to the game with just four extra base hits in 115 at-bats.

6/26/18: 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Average size, lean, athletic build. At the plate he starts with his hands high in a slightly open stance. Small leg lift, pretty balanced. Contact hitter, puts the ball in play. Average bat speed. Also average runner at 4.35 down the line. Showed good instincts on the base paths as well. In the field he played SS both games of my evaluation. Plus defender. Good range, made some very nice plays behind 2B and worked to his right well. Good feet, natural at SS. Also, has a good arm to compliment the glove. One of my favorite defenders I’ve seen so far this summer. Went 1-4 in the two games I saw him, but also reached on an error and a HBP. Has room to improve at the plate going into his junior year. (Jake Stone)
