12/14/14 - Shepherd is an athletically built 6-foot 170-pound right-hand pitcher, throws with regular effort and body control throughout delivery, over-the-top arm slot, loose arm action, stays in-line and downhill down the mound, works fastball at 75-78 mph, consistent down in the zone, change-up at 67-70 mph, arm-side release, near fastball arm speed, curveball at 63-62 mph, 12-to-6 shape, late action.
6/19/13: Shepherd is a lanky 6-foot, 160-pound multi-positional player. In the outfield, Shepherd shows quick footwork with quick and aggressive pats to the ball with accuracy on his throws. His transfer is a bit slow at times, but it is clean. In the infield, Shepherd shows a good approach to the ball with sure hands and good range to both sides as well a good glove to hand transfer. His throws were accurate with a top throw of 77-mph. At the plate, Shepherd has a balanced athletic stance with fluid rhythm. His swing got a bit long at times, but stayed level. With some more use of his lower half, he should be able to see an increase in bat speed. On the mound, Shepherd’s fastball with thrown in the 75-76 mph with arm side movement. He also threw a late breaking 10-to-4 breaking ball (76-mph). Once again, with more incorporation of his lower half and continued physical maturity, Shepherd should see a spike in velocity over the next few years.
10/14/12: Shepherd is a lanky 5-foot-11, 145-pound multi-positional player. On the mound, Shepherd commanded three pitches for a strike. Coming from a ¾ arm slot, his fastball sat 72-75 mph, topping at 77-mph with slight arm side run. His breaking ball had slight break, but when thrown with more effort, showed better movement. Shepherd threw his change up with near fastball arm speed, keeping it down in the zone with arm side run. In the outfield, Shepherd found the ball quickly off the bat, taking good routes to the ball and keeping his momentum toward his target. His top outfield throw was 75-mph with some carry. At shortstop, Shephard showed to be a confident fielder with a smooth glove to hand transfer and accurate arm. Offensively, he has a long swing with an uphill bat path. He made consistent contact, with the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field. Additionally, Shepherd ran a 7.38 60.
