11/3/13 - Carrender is a 6-foot, 170-pound athletic infielder with solid across the board tools. During batting practice he showed an open stance and then strides closed. The right-hand hitter has good balance throughout his swing and a mostly gap-to-gap approach, occasionally pulling off some pitches. His exit velocity was clocked at 85 mph. At shortstop Carrender showed good actions and a strong arm registering the top infield throwing velocity in the camp at 85 mph. He ran a 7.11 60-yard dash. Athletic middle infielders with the arm to play shortstop at the next level are few and far between and Carrender fits that mold.
