7/15/22

2022 MLB Draft LeagueHunt has starter traits as he commands a quality four-pitch mix headlined by a riding fastball (91-94) and a big 12-6 breaking curveball that has posted a 59% Whiff%. Showing starter durability was a big development for Hunt in the Draft League.

5/07/22

Touched 95 while working mostly 93-94 with his 2400-2500 rpm fastball. Due to less than ideal spin efficiency it straightened out when up in the zone. His typically above average mid-80s slider with a spin rate into the 2700s induced just two swing/misses in 23 offerings during his 58-pitch relief outing.

7/25/21

Cape Cod- Athletic with a loose and quick arm, Hunt worked down the mound with a high three-quarter release point. He struck out five of the seven hitters he faced over two innings of relief with a fastball up to 94 mph (mostly 92-93) and a pair of high-spin breaking balls. An 83-85 mph slider (max spin 2713) was a plus pitch, inducing most of his swing/miss, including a strikeout of Brooks Lee after a long battle (video below). His power curveball arrived at the plate in the 77-80 mph range with a max spin of 2791 rpm. Hunt showed much better control of his breaking pitches than his fastball and he did not throw a changeup during this look. Reporting late to the Cape after a CWS title run with the Bulldogs, Hunt has thrown just five innings this summer, posting a 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts to date. With improvements to his fastball command and the development of a consistent changeup, Hunt has all the other ingredients to turn himself into a top three round pick in next year's draft.

2/22/21

Flashed a sharp curveball in warmups and pounded the strike zone in the game with an easy 92-94 mph fastball and 83-84 short breaking slider. Overall, he threw seven of his ten pitches for strikes. He has a long, projectable frame with great hair flow and more velocity is likely to come as he continues to physically mature.

Area Code Games (August 11th, 2018)
The Yankees strung together some impressive hits in the fifth against the Reds. With one out, K.C. Hunt (Ramapo HS, NJ) smoked a double down the right field line. The exit velocity wasn’t displayed, but it had to be at least 95.

Area Code Games (August 10th, 2018)
The Yankees sent RHP
K.C. Hunt (Ramapo HS, NJ) to the mound to start their second game, against the Athletics, and he went three innings, allowing a run on four hits while striking out five. The run actually was an unlucky break, as Hunt induced a weak pop-up to second base on the second batter of the second inning, but the area was vacated because a runner on first was stealing. A stolen base put runners on second and third and one came home on a groundout, which would’ve have been the third out if the pop-up had been hauled in. Hunt pitches with an up tempo delivery and works quickly. His curveball had depth at 73-75 and he also showed feel for a changeup at 81, which he used to strike out OF Glenallen Hill Jr. (Santa Cruz HS, CA) twice.

2017 Future Games (August 2-5, 2017)
Hunt has a projectable 6-foot-3 170-pound frame with room to fill out. One of the top performers on the mound for Team New Jersey at the Future Games and one of the top overall ranked 2019s. Fastball sat 86-88 with late life from a true-3/4 slot. Flashed a curveball with sharp 11/5 break at 70-72 MPH and a changeup with fastball arm action and spin at 77-80 with armside fade. Also features a sharp 12/6 knucklecurve. Short, lightning quick and clean arm action. Tall, athletic balance point going down the mound. Effortless velocity out of hand, ball jumps on hitters. Commands four plus pitches for strikes at his age. Level shoulders going down the mound, front landing foot is closed off causing him to drift toward first base side of rubber on finish. Went 3 IP, 1 H, 5 K.  Offensively – ran the 60 yard dash in 6.92-seconds, one of the best times for a Team New Jersey position player at the event. Recorded a 94 MPH Exit Velocity, good for the top velocity from a Team New Jersey member. At the plate, starts in a tall, slightly opened stance with hands above back shoulder. Uses a leg kick to start swing. Long, loose and wiry limbs work fluidly to the ball – produces gap to gap power with lift on finish. Went 2-7 on the weekend with a triple RBI, SB, and 3 Runs Scored. Defensively – throws topped at 85 MPH across the infield with carry and back spin. Easy, fluid actions in the field. Quick, effortless exchange – able to throw from multiple slots.

Futures Preview North ( June 3, 2017)
Lanky 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame, with room fill out. One of the top prospects 2019 for the state of NJ ranked No. 4 in the NJ 2019 Rankings and No. 38 in the National Rankings. Throws from a Low ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. Fastball topped at 88 MPH while sitting consistently 86-88.  Fastball showed late life with some arm side run. Commanded both a slider and a knuckle curve at 75-76, 79-80 respectively.  Slider was tight with downward movement while knuckle curve had a 11-5 break. Arm maintained fastball speed while executing off-speed pitches. High follow with high ceiling.

PBR Future Games (August 4-6, 2016)
Hunt is long and wiry at 6-foot-3 170-pounds. Very high follow prospect with a high ceiling and projectable frame. Offensively- left handed hitter starts opened with hands above shoulder. Uses a leg kick that starts load. Hands are loaded pre pitch. Leg kick generates power, very quick hands and aggressive hips. Exit velo of 86. Defensively- Smooth movements in the field at SS for his tall, lanky frame. Fields ball out in front with clean hand exchange and quick, smooth hands. Throws were from a 3/4 angle at 83 mph.

Futures Preview (6/4/16)
Hunt is a 6-foot-3 165-pound shortstop and right handed pitcher with wiry long limbs and a very projectable frame. At the plate, the left handed hitter sets up with an open stance and uses a high leg kick to generate power, produced an Exit Velo of 89. Possesses excellent barrel awareness and a balanced follow through, despite the high leg kick. In the field, possesses a smooth and clean transition with exceptional footwork and overall feel for shortstop, threw 83 across the diamond. On the mound, Hunt was one of the top performers, with a max velocity of 86. Throwing from a 3/4 arm slot, Hunt has a lightning quick arm with athletic mechanics. Sat 84-86 and showcased a hard 72 MPH 11-5 two-planed slider. Changeup at 78 with arm side fade and a hard-tumbling knuckleball at 77.

4/5/16
- KC Hunt stands at 6-feet-1 and plays SS and pitches. A top performer at last fall’s Underclass Showcase Hunt possesses plus bat speed for a freshman, and utilizes a leg kick. Against Indian Hills, Hunt barreled an Alex Havlicek (Virginia Tech) slider for a single to left field, then lined out to straight away center.

9/20/15 --
K.C. Hunt is already 6-foot, 150 pounds and is only a 2019 graduate. He's a left handed hitter, right-handed thrower. He hits from a tall, open stance and utilizes a leg kick. He generates bat speed and his feel for the barrel is far advanced for a player his age. He occasionally loses balance and stability, spinning off to the pull side, but this will be a non-issue as he gets stronger. Defensively, he showcases good glove skills. He has long strides and is light on his feet, which means solid range. He plays a little too upright at times and will be better off bending more at the knees. K.C. may have been one of the two or three most projectable arms at the event. He pitches with easy, fluid mechanics and plus-plus arm speed from a 3/4 arm slot. His velocity was 78-81 miles-per-hour and he had some arm side bite to his fastball. His slider was tilted and two-plane at 68-72 MPH.
