Matt McDermott, 2B/SS, St. Peter’s Prep, 2017

10/18/15 -- Despite the box score, McDermott was one of the biggest winners on the day in coaches' eyes. The 5-foot-8 gamer put consistent swings on the ball; hitting 3 of his 4 outs hard. He also put his speed on display with a 3.91 down to first on a bunt single. He accomplished a new high exit velocity of 85 MPH as well. Defensively, he has solid actions and does a good job of playing aggressively through the baseball. He was victim of a couple bad hops, but the ability is there for him to be an above average hitting second baseman.

7/16/15 – McDermott is a 5-foot-8 athletic prospect who has a projectable skillset. He ran a 6.88 in the 60-yard dash and flashed solid instincts and above average glove skills during the workout portion. He has a strong, projectable arm for his size and with physical maturity, could have an above average arm. He projects as a high level defender, most likely at second base. Offensively, McDermott hits from a wide, athletic stance and has a toe trigger timing mechanism and a small load of his hands. He has a short path to the ball and has bat speed, indicated by the 83 MPH exit velocity for his size. He has a level swing plane and allows his hands to work while staying balanced in the box.
