2 singles, double and a 2-run homerun showing off his premium bat-speed. RHH continues to get better the more we see him. Also strong defender at the corner.

April 2017

Played 3B in the game, the feet work well and he gets off the ball. The arm has strength to it and the glove is above average. Average runner who can swing the bat. The bat has plus life to it, shows potential to have power at the plate. Potential middle of the order guy at the next level.

NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)

Solidly built 6-foot-1, 180-pound third baseman, ran a 7.54/60. Offensively - effective load, short, compact swing, keeps bat on level path through the zone with upper cut and full extension and exit velocity of 89 MPH - previously registered 92 MPH, evidence of inner knee rotation, lower engagement will produce increased power. Defensively - fundamentally sound with quick, agile movements, smooth transfer to throwing hand for an infield velocity of 80 MPH.

Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)

Young checks in at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Had a 60 yard dash time of 7.07 seconds, down from previous best of 7.38 seconds. Offensively- Begins with feet a little wider than shoulders and knees mostly straight with a slightly open stance. Hands begin above back shoulder. Uses a short and quick leg kick as hands load down and backwards slightly. Hands are short to the ball before extending through contact. Swing plane is slightly uphill. Hips are completely rotational during swing. Has a low, one handed finish. Line drive/gap ability. Had an exit velocity of 90 MPH off of the tee, just below his personal best of 92 MPH. Defensively- Approaches the ball with quick, choppy actions. Fields ball with feet wide and bent at the waist. Fields ball away from his body. Funnels hands back to midsection before going to throwing position. Uses a double shuffle on throws. Aggressive and agile approach; loose arm action on throws of 83 MPH (+2 from June 2016) with a low ¾ arm slot.

NY Games (June 27-29, 2016)

Young has an athletic build, standing at 5-foot-11 and a lean 175 pounds (up 2” and 10 pounds from July 2015). Young ran a 7.40 60 (7.38 60 in July 2015) Offensively- Hands start off back shoulder, wider than shoulder width and open. Lots of bat noise during load but once toe is down, bat is at nice angle. Smooth stride and back leg drives towards the pitcher. Has good lift and an exit velocity of 92 MPH (up 7 MPH from July 2015). Defensively- Athletic set up, active feet and stay down on ball well. Can take better angle to the ball, but makes up for it with athleticism, soft hands and quick transfer. ¾ arm slot; peaking at 81 MPH (+5 MPH from July 2015).

Futures Games (July 2015)

At 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, Young's skill set plays much larger. Listed as a 2B but all measurables, body type and skill set point to a potential next level 3B. Offensively- Brett features a slight wrap of the barrel during load but maintains a positive bat angle and displayed one of the more compact/explosive strokes during his BP rounds. 85 MPH exit velocity coupled with his swing path will allow him to handle above average fastballs and plus off-speed. Different sound to his BP as ball jumps off the bat. 7.38 60 could be improved but average if at a corner spot. Defensively- Brett displayed some of the best actions not only into the ball but through his throws which were accurate with good carry. Arm strength checked in at 76MPH but more in the tank as most throws came off a quick release/short arm action. Displayed soft hands and an above average transfer. Will be comfortable at 2B/SS/3B.
