WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)

This 6 foot 170 pound, well put together 2017 RHP/OF showed a lot of upside at the Houghton Clinic.  At the plate he stood tall and used a short stride and simple load.  Could shorten up to the ball a little to utilize his bat speed more efficiently.  Though mechanically a little raw at the plate he registered one of the highest Exit Velocity of the day at 85mph.  Couple that with a 4.19 down the line and he shows a lot of upside as an athletic two way guy.

In the outfield Staszak sets up behind the ball and showed a quick transfer with a + arm.  He approached the ball under control and fields off his right foot as he’s moving through.  His straight over the top arm slot from the outfield generated good carry to the plate.
On the mound he stays tall above the rubber and shows good explosiveness downhill with good hand speed. He uses an over the top arm slot. His finish was consistent and slightly glove side.

New York Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Staszak stands 6-foot-0, 166-pounds with a lean frame. He uses a balanced setup, fast tempo, separates hands in front of rubber. Drives off back side, opens hips early some, arm action is short, down and back. Long stride, throws from an over-the-top slot, finish is upright, falls towards first-base line. Needs to work on getting his chin over his front knee.

From the outfield Matt sets up nicely behind his fly balls and shows a quick release with a live arm.  On his ground balls he stays down and through nicely and follows his throw.  He's got a strong body and strong arm which he showed off well at this event. At the plate Matt showed some inconsistencies with his timing which in turn affected his contact.  He's got a strong frame and ability to hit for power but lacks consistency in his mechanics at this time.  With a 24" Vertical and an 8'2" Broad Jump, Staszak certainly showed a strong lower half that could really help his power as he fine tunes his timing and mechanics.  This dual player, who spends a lot of time on the mound as an RHP, shows a lot of athletic upside.
