7/12/18

A long and athletic right-handed pitcher that starts in a tall setup. Delivery is very fluent and repeatable. Generates a lot of momentum from his lower half. Strike foot lands slightly open upon impact. Releases the ball from a high ¾ arm slot with a long action. Throws a fastball with above average movement. Pitch comes right to left downhill. Also offers a curveball with an 11-5 shaped break. Throws the pitch with heavy rotation.

FB: 80-83
CB: 72-76

9/24/17

The 6-foot-4, right-handed showed why he is considered one of the top arm prospects in the state's 2020 class. Bickerstaff is far from his ceiling physically as his long limbed frame has a ton of room to support added strength. Delivery is fluid and doesn't require a ton of effort. Transitions well from his high leg lift into his hip load. Lower half creates solid energy and direction. Shows long back arm action while working through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sat in the 83-85 mph range with noticeable late run to it. The pitch also showed some sink when working to arm side. Throws his breaking ball firm at 72-76 mph, giving it depth as it works on an 11/5 plane. The pitch has potential to develop into a well above average offering. Also flashed a changeup, maintaining fastball arm speed. Didn't have to use the offering much so feel is developing and should increase as he needs to use it more. A high upside arm prospect in general that should be a high follow for college coaches.

7/26/17

6-foot-4, 175-pound right-hander sat 82-83 with his fastball which was relatively straight while working out of a high 3/4 arm slot.  Arm action is long and loose and Bickerstaff was able to consistently repeat his delivery. Long frame and levers create interesting angles. Curveball thrown at 72-73 was somewhat inconsistent in it's break although at it's best was sharp with an 11-5 shape. Changeup lacked separation at 77-80 mph but had considerable run and sink.  Bickerstaff showed ability to command his secondary offerings.  He would benefit from landing slightly less open with his front hip and driving more aggressively over his front knee.  Overall, frame, velocity, delivery and athleticism make Bickerstaff a very interesting follow in Class of 2020 .

Offensively, initiated swing from open set up with pronounced knee-to-knee leg kick to neutral.  There was tendency to lean back with upper half and be somewhat passive in weight shift.  Mechanics created uphill swing path and difficulty being on time on this day.  Recorded bat exit velocity of 79 mph.
