76.0
Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
6/6/17 A switch hitter at the plate. Front the left-side he is fluid and movements create a ton of energy. Path is downhill and he consistently found the barrel in batting practice. Mechanically similar from the right-side, maintaining pop. Looks to be a true switch hitter moving forward. Flashed gap to gap pop from both sides, with impressive barrel awareness. In the infield he is mechanically sound with above average glove skills. Moves well laterally and has a quick first step. Projects more as a second baseman. In the outfield he moves with fluidity approaching the baseball. Plays through the ball with ease and transfers smoothly into his throws. Arm strength is developing and throws showed accuracy. 60-yard dash: 6.93 Outfield Velocity: 76 Infield Velocity: 74 Exit Velocity: R-84 L-90
1/22/17
Mechanically sound in the outfield. Footwork is efficient and he does a nice job of maintaining momentum into his throws. Throws were accurate with solid carry. A switch hitter at the plate. Very fluid from the right side. Incorporates a leg kick and bat tip during his loading sequence. Impressive bat speed through the zone. Path is slightly downhill. Has a skill set to hit at the top of the lineup or in the middle. Similar mechanics from the left side and maintains his bat speed and pop. Only adjustment from both sides would be to stay through contact more consistently. When he stays through the ball jumps off his bat. Very mechanically sound in the infield. Does a nice job with his feet to field through the baseball and maintain momentum into his throws. Glove skills are above average. Made a very impressive play to his forehand side during his evaluation.
6/30/15 5-foot-7, 145-pound thin, projectable body frame. From the infield he approaches the baseball with good footwork, but needs to continue playing through the baseball. Throws with a clean, short arm action coming from a ¾ slot, using 69 mph velocity and showed the ability to use different arm angles when needed. Switch hitter, from the left-side of the plate he uses simple, repeatable mechanics, starting with his weight slightly more towards his back leg and uses a short stride. He loads with his hands fluidly moving back towards his shoulder. Swings with a level bat path through the zone, finishing with a two-handed follow through. From the right-side of the plate he starts from a balanced stance, again using a short stride, and uses the same load with his hands. Swings with a flat bat path through the zone, finishing with a two-handed follow through. He hit three singles during the games portion of the event, going 3-5. Reached a top exit velocity of 85 mph and ran a 3.99 out of the batter’s box to first base.
1/18/15 5-foot-7, 141-pound athletic build. From the infield he projects as a second base type. He shows good range, soft hands, and throws from a ¾ slot with 68 mph arm strength across the diamond. Speed is the strength of Derek’s game. Switch-hitter that I believe is slightly better from the left side. From the left side he starts closed and has a good path with 83 mph exit velocity. From the right side has no stride with good balance. High hands with exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a showcase best 4.19 home to first.
7/29/14 Young, 5-foot-6, 130-pound body frame with room to grow. Looks to be more of a second-base type at this stage but it’s still early. He stops his feet and would benefit from being more aggressive playing through the baseball, throws from a ¾ slot using 64 mph arm strength. Switch hitter from the left-side, he looks a little more comfortable, starts from a balanced set up has just a little bit of a jump up before he swings, uses both fields well during BP rounds, and in a game at bat singled to left center field. From the right side he starts from a balanced set up, using a fluid hands back trigger, his weight tends to leak forward. Reached an exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 4.50 down the line.
