2/10/19

A guy who showed one of the more improved skill sets was Marshall commit, John Zigmond. The Moeller backstop impressed per usual behind the dish, showing a big arm and the lowest pop time of the day. However, it was his bat that showed noticeable growth from the summer. Zigmond made quality swing changes, most noticeably ditching the leg kick and going to more of a toe turn. This led to a much cleaner/more repeatable lower half that allowed him to utilize his well above average natural tools much more efficiently than we’ve seen in past. BP was by far the loudest he has taken and his exit velocity has jumped almost 15 mph to 97 mph.

7/24/18

Makes his money behind the dish. Physical frame back there at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Showed off a big arm in workout in game. Not afraid to fire it to any base at any time. Also displayed above average abilities with the finer points of the position in game as well. A right-handed bat that starts in a tall setup. Uses a leg kick for timing as hands flow through barrel tip movement. Aggressive lower half that leads to front foot launch. Level path with slightly downhill tendencies. Continues to get more physical each time we see him. Line drive type guy with gap abilities.

6/05/18

One of the more projectable prospects at the catcher position. Possesses an ideal frame at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and should only get more physical over the next few years. An above average athlete back there as well. Really liked what I saw in game and he flashed the biggest arm out of all the catchers in attendance. Hit tool has some room to improve but that should come naturally as strength arrives.

2/18/18

Scholarship type prospect who should receive D1 attention. 6-foot-2, 170 pound athletically built catcher was one of the top performers at the event showing explosive actions behind the plate with great intent. Catches out of stronger, balanced stance getting into a strong throwing position due to his solid footwork. Ball to hand transfer speed was quick and efficient. Showed plus receiving abilities as well. Strong arm with a 77 mph throwing velocity. Po times were impressive too at 1.90-1.96 seconds. In the infield he showed average fielding ability with his glove work. Footwork was average and still developing in taking better angles to the ball getting it to it sooner. Showed above average arm strength at 81 mph across the diamond to first base. At the plate he is far from ceiling but shows signs of developing into a middle of the order type. Swing shows natural loft and once he adds strength he should be able to drive the gaps with regularity.

7/25/17

A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall, open setup. Loading sequence is fluid, using an aggressive stride for timing. Hands stay simple and loose prior to launch. Swings with intent, showing gap to gap pop. Should grow into some power as he adds strength. Profiles as a future middle of the order bat. Behind the plate he was very impressive with his catch and throws skills. Looked athletic and mechanically efficient. Arm is advanced for his age. Arm accuracy would be only area for improvement. A rangy infielder with athletic actions. Uses direct footwork to the baseball, playing through with soft hands. Plays with obvious confidence.

6/06/17

A right-handed hitter that starts in an open setup. Starts loading sequence with a leg kick and keeps his hands simple during stride forward. Path is slightly downhill and the barrel gets in and out of the zone quickly. Contact guy at this stage.  Very athletic behind the plate. Footwork is clean and transfer is fluid.

60-yard dash: 7.98
Catcher Velocity: 77
Pop Times: 1.98-2.10
Exit Velocity: 85

1/28/17

At the plate he starts in a balanced setup prior to his leg kick load and aggressive stride. Creates excellent energy with his lower half. An ambush type hitter that has a tendency to shift weight prior to swing decision. Ball came off his bat very well when he was on time. Would like to see him control his forward movement. Showed impressive pop to his pull side. Defensively, he looks most natural as a catcher. Behind the dish, he shows some quickness in his footwork. Squares himself up and maintains direction for his throws. Pop times ranged between 1.9 to 2.07. In the infield, he projects a 2B. Shows average hands and footwork. Shows some length to his transfer. Uses short arm action from a high ¾ slot.

6/28/16

5-foot-11, 150-pound prospect. A solid defender behind the plate with average to above average tools across the board. Showed off a very strong arm to second base as he topped out at 72 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.15-2.26. At the plate he has a simple loading process that involves taking his hands back during his stride forward. Would like to see him loosen up his hands a bit. Obvious strength through the zone and the ball jumped off his bat in batting practice. Top exit velocity was 82 mph.

3/19/16

5-foot-10, 135-pound prospect. At the plate John uses a simple hands back load during his aggressive stride forward. Showed good batspeed and strength through the zone with the ability to create backspin on his line drives. Registered a top exit velocity of 72 mph off the tee. Advanced skills for his age behind the plate. Reached a top velocity of 74 mph from the crouch. Good carry to his throws. Quick transfer. Gets rid of the baseball. Pop times ranged between 2.16 to 2.25. Across the infield, he threw with 71 mph arm strength working through a ¾ slot. Displayed fluid and athletic actions throughout his fielding sequence with the ability to create angles and play through the ball. Ran a 7.8 60-yard dash.
