6-foot-5, 185 pound projectable frame jumped to the number 14 spot and is the next in the line of dominant starters from Defiance High School. Smiddy was a Top Prospect Games participant who sits 83-86, touching 87 with the fastball while being confident in three total pitches (12/6 CB and changeup). Curveball sits 72-75 with good depth while the changeup, which is thrown near fastball arm speed, sits 74-76 with some arm-side run. Smiddy was also selected for the Future Games, but was unable to make it due to prior commitments. At shortstop the lanky athlete fields the ball out in front, making a strong accurate throw to first through a high-3/4 slot with a velocity in the low 80s. At the plate has a short compact swing with an exit velocity of 84 mph. Also ran a 7.41 60-yard dash.

8-15-2018: At six-foot-five, 215 pounds Smiddy has a wide frame, lean build and physical projection remaining. Worked in the 89-92 mph range with his fastball. Relatively straight with decent angle from a high three-quarter slot. Curveball had tight 11/5 rotation at 78-80. Only used a few straight changeups at 81-82. It’s a fair pitch for him and he showed some feel, but is still more of a work in progress at this point. Overall, a very similar look to what he showed Scouting Trail- Week 4 this spring. (Seifert)
