4/2/17 - Surrett, 2018 grad worked with good angle on his pitches at 5-foot-10, getting quick arm out front and staying in the zone. Slow and controlled delivery, Surrett gets over the rubber and works from 3/4 slot with downward angles to his stuff. Spins the ball showing the ability to tighten up his breaking ball as he adds strength. Room for his to get strong and increase velo, can use more lower half and his quick twitch ability projects he can add more to his stuff. See how he plays at moving forward as it is clean with feel and actions to work with.
2/5/16
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed pitcher with slender build. Throws from ¾ arm slot, clean separation, shows some whip, works with tempo, ball comes out of his hand quickly topping out at 71 mph, but more there. Shows a good feel for his curveball, 11-5 shape, keeps it down in the zone, doesn’t miss up. Can incorporate lower half more, when he does he’ll see a spike in velocity on all his pitches. Changeup works, but slows the arm down a little, sat 66-67 mph. Surrett is young, but he’s come a long way since we saw him a year ago. If he keeps growing, with some polish the 2018 grad should be interesting to watch down the road.
2/15/15
5-foot-9, 130-pound 2018 grad with room to physically mature. On the mound, Surrett had a repeatable delivery out the windup, step back behind rubber then up into balance position. Arm path was short and clean, landing online with good timing. Worked from ¾ arm slot with minimal effort. Fastball was 66-69 mph while he was able to locate and fill the zone. Curveball was 58-60 mph and showed good rotation and spin. Changeup stayed consistently 63-64 mph. Surrett threw all three pitches for strikes, and with added strength and maturity should see his numbers increase. Offensively, ran a 4.81 from home to first and a 5.53 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, hit from a wide, open stance with hands up. Small stride with load back and down, swing had some lift to it. Exit velocity was 66 mph. Defensively, clean actions in the outfield. Arm was easy and was able to get good extension. Lower half worked and was on time. Velocity from the outfield was 61 mph.
