4/13/15 Struggled with command early sitting 85-87 over the first two innings with two strikeouts. Went to cutter at 81-83 more frequently in innings three and four registering six strikeouts. Showed slider at 76 mph and rolling curveball that sat 69-72. Changeup thrown infrequently lacked any significant movement on this day.
11/1/14 Higgins, an Arizona State recruit, had a strong outing on Saturday. He allowed just one hit in two innings while striking out four. His fastball sat 85-87, touching 88-89, with some cut action. Pitching from a high-3/4 slot, his curveball sat 74-75 with tight break and good, 11/5 shape. He also threw a straight changeup at 79-80.
8/3/13 Higgins was definitely one of the most impressive left-handed pitchers at the 2013 Midwest Future Games. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound lefty sat 84-86 while touching 87 mph. He commanded the strike zone and mixed a 78 mph changeup with a 71 mph curveball to keep hitters off balance. Higgins struck out six in his 3.2 innings of work over the course of two days, allowing just two hits. His projectable frame and repeatable mechanics indicate additional velocity is likely over the coming year.
2/23/13 Higgins has a very projectable 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame and sound, repeatable mechanics. The left-handed sophomore sat 83-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot, but has been 85-87 earlier this winter. Higgins displayed tight rotation to his 1/7 breaking curveball at 70 mph. He also commanded a 79 mph changeup that shows arm side run. Higgins could afford to take some velocity off his changeup to separate the pitch further from his fastball and to allow greater movement. Higgins established himself as one of the elite left-handed pitchers in the Class of 2015.
1/26/13 Higgins is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect who also quarterbacks his Parkland HS football team. The athletic lefty sat 83-86, touching 87 mph several times with a heavy four seam fastball. Higgins has a sound, repeatable high 3/4 arm slot delivery that will allow for significant increases in velocity in the coming years. He also commanded the strike zone with a 72 mph 1/7 breaking curveball and an 81 mph changeup. Higgins has a power pitchers frame and gets out over his front side very well to create a downward plane to the plate.
