2/16/14 Bates is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior that sat 77-79 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. The righty also displayed an 11/5 breaking curveball that topped at 71 mph and a 74 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed that showed some arm side run. Bates showed repeatable mechanics and remained in the strike zone throughout his bullpen session.
