8/19/16 Uncommitted senior right-handed pitcher was solid for the second time in two months in front of us, pitching out of a low three-quarter slot with a fastball that sat 80-83. Slider at 69-71 with short three-quarter action was improved from the previous viewing, as it generated a number of swing-and-misses with late tilt out of his fastball window.
7/20/16 6-foot, 170-pounder who starts his delivery with a sideways rocker into a chest-high leg lift and pitches out of a low three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 79-83 and he showed an ability to work down in the zone with some sink at the lower end of that range. Also incorporated a slider with short break at 71-74 and a rare change-up at 68-70.
1/31/16 6-foot-1, 170-pound primary pitcher sat 79-80 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. The junior has a quick arm action with a high knee stack and hip coil action to his delivery that allows the ball to jump on hitters. Jacob displayed excellent tempo to his delivery and should continue to see velocity gains as his lanky frame fills out. A 69 mph curveball with 10/4 shape and a tighter breaking slider at 72 mph gives Jacobs two breaking balls in his arsenal. His 71 mph changeup is thrown with good rhythm and was commanded down in the zone on this day.
The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing from a deep hand-load position. Some lower half glide leads to some length in his swing, but the junior displayed a feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Jacob flashed 82 mph arm strength from the outfield with athletic actions and ran a 7.47 60-yard dash.
