9/18/16 - Max FB: 81, FB: 77-81, CB: 67-69, CH: 71-73, SL: 72-73
6-foot-2, 215-pound, RHP performed similarly to his appearance at our Top Prospect Games in June although his velo didn’t quite reach its peak, showed the same good rhythm we have seen in the past with a high leg lift and good flexibility to gather with a good amount of torque at the top, front hip gets loaded very well and shoulder tilt is created with ease, strides in line with typically good balance, long arm action looks easy and comes through an over-the-top slot.  Fastball had very slight run but was kept down in the zone well, curveball had some gradual 12/6 shape, changeup showed slight fade at the plate.

6/14/16 - Max FB: 84, FB: 81-84, CB: 70-71, CH:
6'2, 215-pound, RHP shows good rhythm throughout his delivery as everything seems connected and under control, good use of lower half helps to stay consistent throughout his delivery and release.  Fastball really bears down on RHH’s hard from a high ¾ arm slot with run and was thrown to both sides of the plate, a little erratic at times, curveball shows some powerful 12/6 action and led to a strikeout or two in the dirt.  Spurgeon recorded 3 k’s in his 2 innings of work.  Has made a big velo jump in the past 10 months and has obviously worked hard to get better on the mound and transform his body.

8/16/15 - The 6-foot-1, 235-pound righty has a big, stocky build. Uses his strong legs to his advantage in getting down the mound. Throwing from a high- ¾ slot with clean arm action, his fastball sat at 76-78mph with good late run to the arm side. His curveball sat at 65-66mph with sharp late break at the 11/5 trajectory. Stuck with the two-pitch mix and showed the ability to throw both consistently for strikes. Spurgeon gave up 3 hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched.
