5/22/21

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound right-hander pumped easy heat during his 1.1 inning relief appearance against the Huskers, but he found some barrels, allowing four hits and three runs. His upper-90s fastball topped out at 99, but was straight with scattered control. He also flashed a plus slider with hard and late action, freezing the last batter of the eighth inning for strike three looking. Although Neely’s results (2-3, 6.10 ERA, 41.1 IP, 24 BB, 13 HBP) haven’t matched his stuff this spring, guys with upper-90s velo and plus sliders doesn’t grow on trees. Late on Day Two is a reasonable landing spot for Neely this July.

10/14/19

University of Texas transfer. 6-foot-8 frame with long arms and long legs. Has flashed a fastball up to 96 in short stints as well as a breaking ball up to 84. Surprisingly athletic, former high school basketball player, for one with his frame and length. Neely presently has a power fastball and a breaking ball that will play when its right, will need to show consistency with both for him to fully reach his potential. (Haig)

4/10/17

Texas recruit. Neely has become an effective tool out of the Churchill bullpen this year. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound right-hander is highlighted by a crisp and heavy fastball ranging from 86-88 mph and topping out at 90 mph. Neely creates a harsh slope with the ball from his high ¾ arm slot that works well against hitters on both sides of the plate, but when he does struggle it is typically from pulling down on the fastball and spiking it short of the plate. He has a devastating 12-6 curveball at 74-76 mph, and gets swings and misses. His changeup is his third best pitch that he throws occasionally and flashes fade and depth.

11.05.16

6-foot-8, 210-pound, lean, wiry, projectable frame. The right-hander works from a high slot with long arm action and an up-tempo delivery wasting no time between pitches. With the projectable frame and high slot he creates good angle on his fastball at 84-86 mph. He threw his curveball from 75-77 mph.
