McCusker has an athletic frame and continues to be a good two-way player. Pitched in this game, sitting 80-81, a higher slot than in the past, throwing from about three-quarters. Still creates a lot of deception with a crossfire delivery, gets some run on his fastball. Curveball has more break this year, with 1/7 break and good armspeed at 71-72. Has been used primarily as a reliever this spring, started in this game and was running on fumes in the third inning, but kept battling through five. At the plate, went 2-3 against Vogatskey, short swing from the left side, beat out an infield hit in one and doubled to left in the other. Works middle of field, chance to hit for average with some extra base power, has speed and is a good baserunners. Roanoke is getting a good outfielder in McCusker who could also help them as a relief option.

At the plate, he hits from the left side and has a quick bat with some bat speed. Shorter swing with gap power potential. Worked middle of the field, fought a pitch off for his one hit, muscling a ball into centerfield for an RBI. In the outfield, gets good breaks on the ball and takes clean routes. Has speed, ran a 4.34 on a one-hop comebacker, mostly gliding to first. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and a crossfire delivery. Fastball has a lot of lateral angle and late sink, pitch was 80-82, touching 83. Threw with some effort. Change-up had good armspeed and late sink, mirroring fastball well at 73-75. Curveball had late 1/7 break at 71-73 with good armspeed. His three pitches are deceptive because he gets a good tunneling effect, keeping them out of the same spot until close to home plate. Potential to be a two-way contributor in college.

6.25.17:  McCusker has a lankier athletic frame that is projectable and that he has room to add strength too. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action and normal effort. He lands closed and recoils about, has a classic lefty crossfire delivery and hides the ball well. Fastball sat 77-80, touched 81 with some run to it and good angle. Change-up had sink and some armspeed at 73. Showed a slider with some 2/8 bite. Pitched primarily with his fastball, showed command of it. At the plate, hits from the left side and has some batspeed, intriguing two-way prospect.

2.18.17:  McCusker is 6-0 with a lanky frame, throws with a drop and drive delivery from a low three-quarters arm slot. Shorter, free arm action that is quick, normal effort to delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77 with late sink and some run. Change-up was 70-73 with some armspeed and run to it. Curveball had 1/7 break and was 63-65 with some armspeed. Showed the ability to throws strikes with all three pitches. Hits from the left side from an open athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Short, level path with a quick swing and extension through the ball. Line drive swing with some pull tendency and gap power potential, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, gets behind ball well and plays through it, quick exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm, outfield velocity was 78.
