8.10.16:  Payne is 6-0 and has an athletic frame, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. Short, quick arm action generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders are closed as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 77-78, touching 80 with good command. Sharp 12/6 curveball with good armspeed and command was 67-69. Payne hits from the left side from a tall, open stance. Smooth load slightly back, leg kick stride. Ok lower half and good balance throughout swing. Fast bat and good approach, working gap to gap with level swing with good extension. Exit velocity of 89 with some power potential.
6.11.16: Payne hits from the left side with an open stance and has some batspeed. He predominantly works with a pull approach but can use the entire field. He has easy doubles power between the gaps and to his pull side. On the mound, his fastball sat 77-79, touching 81. His change-up had run and was 70-72. His breaking ball was 66.
5.22.16:  Payne stands 6-0 tall and has an athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action and some effort. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders slightly uphill and closed with an open landing and slight fall off finish. Fastball has downward angle and sat 79-81, touching 82. 12/6 curveball with decent armspeed, 65-68. Fading change-up with good armspeed 70-73. Offensively, he hits from a slight crouch and slightly open stance. He loads back and smooth with a short leg kick. His level swing, good rhythm, and fast bat speed produced an exit velocity of 88. From the outfield, Payne throws from a long, high three quarter arm action. His positional velocity was 81 and he showed good accuracy and some carry. He is an athletic player who showed it in his footwork and transfer.
7.14.15 Payne has an athletic frame with a strong lower half and throws over the top with a tall and fall delivery. His arm action is short and he generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and slightly closed as he strides out to a closed landing before falling off as he finishes. His angle and crossfire delivery made it tough for hitters to pick the ball up. Payne’s fastball had a ton of plane to it and some late cutting action. He threw strikes with it and sat 77-79, touching as high as 81. He moved the pitch inside an out impressively. He also threw a 12/6 curveball with decent armspeed for strikes that ran 63-67.  Offensively, hit from a wide, tall stance.  Slight load back with no stride, heel up/down.  Average lower half turn that drifts to his front side.  Average balance.  Bat exit velocity of 83 MPH.  Good approach to the round.  Short, level swing path with extension.  Average rhythm.  Line drive hitter with pull power.  In the field, threw short, high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 77 MPH.  Average hands.  Quick, clean footwork that plays through the ball.

2.15.15 Payne has a strong lower half to his frame and throws from a three-quarters slot. He wraps on his back side but has a quick armstroke. He has drop and drive mechanics and lands a bit open, causing him to fall off as he finishes. His shoulders are online and uphill as he heads towards the plate. Payne’s fastball has cutting action to it and ran 74-76 mph, he did a good job of keeping it down. He threw a 1/7 power breaking curveball that ran 60-63 mph and was up in the zone on the day. His change-up had slight cutting action and was thrown with full armspeed at 64-66 mph.  Offensively, hit from a balanced stance that was a bit wide.  Minimal load back with a slight arm bar.  Took a small stride and maintained balance throughout the swing.  Had a good approach on the day and a fluid rhythm that was quiet.  Had a short, level bath path and had extension.  Showed good hands and feel for the barrel.  Line drive stroke.  Had an Exit Velocity of 79 mph.  In the field, threw from a over the top arm slot with a long loose arm action. Throws were accurate and had carry.  Played through the ball.  Good actions.  Exchanges were clean and footwork was fluid.  Moves well.  Showed soft hands and body control.  Had a Positional Velocity of 77 mph.
