Byhre has showed signs this summer of harnessing his premium arm strength, which has translated to a better feel for the strike zone. Against Lou Collier/DB A's, a 2021 team in attendance, Byhre didn't need much other than his big fastball, which sat 85-88 mph throughout his four innings of work, touching multiple 89s. He's still honing in breaking ball feel, but once he gets better grasp of his curveball, he'll have an enviable two-pitch mix that will play at any level. Right now, it's an 11/5 breaker with solid depth, but he has a tendency to slow things down when he throws it.

In STiKS Black’s second 17U game, RHP Chris Byhre starred. We’re accustomed to seeing Byhre reach the low 90s, as he did in the spring, but it came at a cost: his command. On Thursday, Byhre dialed it back in his start against Rhino WI and came within one out of tossing a complete game shutout. From start to finish, the uncommitted 2020 righty sat in the 83-86 mph range, touching 87 mph multiple times throughout. His offspeed is still a work in progress, but given his premium arm strength, the change in velo is effective as he continues to sharpen his breaking ball’s bite. He aced a strike out looking on the outside corner with an 87 mph fastball on the black to end the sixth, his final full frame.

6-foot, 215-pound two-way player, strong lower half, thick build. Plus arm strength on the mound, drop and drive delivery, some effort, high balance point, lands square. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, loose strong arm. Fastball played mostly straight, lively through hitting zone, sat 88-91 mph, touched 92 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, sharp action, some feel, near fastball arm speed, 70-71 mph. Straight changeup, has feel, deceptive arm speed, 78-82 mph. Defensively arm played long high ¾ across the diamond, 84 mph. Third base profile. 7.29 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, reverse toe tap stride. Present bat strength, pull side power approach, hard contact. 95 mph exit velocity from the tee.

5/22/18 - Currently ranked No. 30 in Wisconsin’s Class of 2020. 6-foot, 195-pound, two-way prospect, strong, physical build, present strength. Hit in the three-hole and served as DH. Offensively, swings aggressively, resulting in hard pull-side contact. Turned on a ball, hitting it off the left field wall for an easy double, following at-bat drove in a run on a single to the outfield. Hit a walk-off home run against Burlington

7.24.17 - 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery with regular effort and an open landing. Fastball was erratic at 79-83 topping out at 84 mph. Curveball has 10-4 shape with loose rotation at 65-68 mph. Changeup sat 69-70 mph. 

7.14.17 - Strong, physically advanced, 6-foot-1, 190-pound CIF/RHP. Right handed hitter starts from a crouched, open setup. Aggressive swings with consistent hard contact, showed pull side power on HR to left center field. Finished the day Friday going 5-for-6 with 7 RBI, a double, and a HR. On the mound works from a high ¾ slot, fastball was 77-80 occasionally running it up to  81. Kept hitters off balance with a 63-66 mph breaking ball with depth that had an 11/5 shape. Went three innings striking out three and giving up 1 hit.

5/13/17 - 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, solid sturdy frame. Drop and drive type delivery, regular effort, athletic delivery can repeat, stays compact. Arm action is quick and loose, short arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 87 mph, sat 83-86 mph, straight with control of the zone. Breaking ball has slurve type action, tight spin, 11/5 shape, late action, 62-65 mph. High follow 2020 with premium fastball velocity for his age.
