10/08/17  Working out of mid 3/4 arm slot FB sat 77-79 mph with moderate arm side run. CB at 68-69 MPH had 11-6 shape with intermittent, moderate depth. SL 70-72 had 11-5 shape with early, slow break. CH was thrown at FB arm speed with arm side fade at 70-72 mph. Delivery was consistently repeated.  Mechanics showed stride foot landing excessively closed with corresponding blocking of hip rotation and associated first base fall. There is athleticism in delivery.

Left-handed hitter initiates swing from neutral set up with knee to knee leg kick and stride while staying neutral. There is tendency to drop hands during stride with subsequent slightly uphill swing path and difficulty in consistently being on time. Swing is otherwise very athletic with excellent mechanics. The head is still with good separation, balance and leverage achieved. There is considerable quickness in hands and hips. Advanced athleticism should allow small mechanical adjustment to result in swing that will play at next level to both power and average.

Defensively, Flashes soft, confident hands in fielding ball bottom up and out front. There is considerable athleticism to actions with substantial lateral quickness and range as MI. Swain would benefit from creating optimal angles an hops by more aggressively attacking the baseball.

6-foot-4, 205-pound two-way prospect with advanced offensive abilities. The left-handed hitter put together impressive numbers as a junior that included a
.494 batting average with an .828 slugging percentage. He also stole seven bases, drove in 45 runs, hit 11 doubles and clubbed six home runs. The two-way prospect was nearly as impressive on the mound going 5-0 with a 1.24 earned run average including 85 strikeouts in 51 innings of work.
