Minnick is a 6-foot, 215-pound C/3B from Logan HS. He went 7-2 with a 1.38 ERA and hit .539 with 6 home runs and 39 RBI as a sophomore in 2013.
6/18/14 Over the course of the two day event Minnick went 5-for-5 in game play at the pate including a double, two triples and a 385 foot opposite field home run. The six foot, 215-pound catcher ran a 7.01 60-yard dash, and flashed an 87 mph arm from the crouch with pop times of 1.84-1.99 during defensive evaluations. Minnick went on to throw 88 mph across the diamond from 3rd base and 91 mph from the outfield. The right-handed hitter completed his impressive performance by turning in one of the top bat exit velocities of the event at 96 mph.
11/2/13 Minnick is a C/3B that also pitches. If he were to concentrate solely on being a pitcher the results could be interesting. The 6-foot, 215-pound righty, ranked No. 1 in the WV Class of 2015, sat 85-87 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Minnick commanded a 72 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 72 mph splitter that shows down action at the plate. While Minnick's abilities as a power hitting catcher are well documented, it is likely that he will also be recruited for his potential on the mound. He showcased pop times of 2.00-2.09 with the top arm strength of all catchers at 82 mph from the crouch. We have seen Minnick in the 1.80-1.90 range at past events. Minnick has a very strong lower half that he uses to generate bat speed and power from the right side of the plate. He showcased quick hands and power potential to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 94 mph. Minnick also sat 85-87 from the mound during his bullpen session.
9/29/13 Minnick has had a breakout summer and fall. The 6-foot, 215-pound C/3B has emerged as a high level recruit and has drawn interest from multiple Division I programs following his performance as a member of Team Pennsylvania at the Under Armour Midwest Future Games in August. Minnick had another solid showing at Alderson Broaddus University turning in pop times of 1.88-1.95 and the top bat exit velocity of the day at 96 mph. Currently ranked No. 1 in WV and No. 19 in the PBR combined rankings for the Class of 2015, Minnick continues to exhibit the arm strength and offensive potential that will draw continued interest from the top programs in the country.
8/3/30 Minnick, ranked No. 1 in the WV Class of 2015, had the stadium buzzing prior to Game No. 1 with his defensive workout. The 6-foot, 215-pound backstop turned in an event best 1.79 pop time on throws of 82 mph out of the crouch. He went on to sit in the upper 80's on the mound and showcased his power potential at the plate with a double and a two-run home run in game action. Minnick was impressive defensively and at the plate, but also flashed legitimate potential on the mound. The righty struck out three in three innings of work while sitting 85-88 on the hill. He showed signs of an above average slider at 78 mph and the potential to be a back end bullpen guy in addition to his other abilities.
7/16/13 Minnick was as good as advertised, and then some. The 6-foot, 215-pound C/3B began his day by running an impressive 7.12 60-yard dash for a prospect his size. Minnick then showcased an 84 mph arm across the diamond from 3B with good carry to his throws. He proceeded to display a plus arm from behind the plate on throws of 83 mph from the crouch and pop times of 1.87-1.97. Minnick turned in the top bat exit velocity of the day at 96 mph and displayed legitimate power potential during a solid round of batting practice. He capped his "Top Prospect" performance by sitting 86-88 from the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Minnick also displayed a two-seam fastball with arm side run at 87 mph, a 74 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 76 mph splitter. Minnick has been added to the Team Pennsylvania roster for the Midwest Future Games in August and is likely to make an immediate impression on the national recruiting scene with his advanced skill set.
