Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Special "thank you" to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season.
NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state of AL.
+ RHP/SS Connor Gehr (Gulf Shores, 2024), an uncommitted junior, showed why he is one of the top two-way prospects still on the market in the junior class in AL with another strong week for the Dolphins as they prepare for the Class 5A Playoffs. Gehr made an impact on both sides of the ball this week while tossing a complete-game shutout and hitting over .600 in batting average offensively. On the mound, the right-hander went 1-0, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, & 9 Ks while also hitting 6-for-9 (.667) with a double, three RBIs, four runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases.
+ RHP/SS Aiden Poe (Vincent, 2025), a Top-25 ranked prospect in the sophomore class in AL, has compiled one of the more impressive pitching seasons that we've seen this spring and delivered another dominant outing this week as Vincent prepares for the Class 2A Playoffs. The right-hander turned in another complete-game shutout on the mound going 1-0, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, & 14 Ks this past week.
