2025 Alexandria Valley Cubs Team Preview

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. TEAM OUTLOOK

The Alexandria Valley Cubs are entering the 2025 baseball season after a historic 2024, where they captured their first-ever state championship. Moving down to Class 4A and losing most of last year's team to graduation, the Valley Cubs will face some "new" this season, but will look to continue the momentum from last season.

In 2024, the Valley Cubs were dominant in Class 5A, staying ranked No. 1 for much of the season and finishing undefeated in the postseason, defeating teams like Douglas, Lawrence County, Sardis, Springville, and Mobile Christian to secure the title. That championship squad featured mostly senior starters, many of whom are continuing their careers at the collegiate level. For 2025, the team will rely on a mix of returning players and unproven talent. The key returning player is LHP/1B Bray Goode (South Alabama, 2025), a senior who was the third starter last season and will now take on the role of ace. Goode also contributes offensively, having come up with clutch hits in the postseason. Another senior, catcher Jacob Cunningham (2025), will play a major role behind the plate. Several underclassmen—LHP Brodie Barber (2027), RHP/3B Emmitt Pinson (2027), RHP/INF Wilson Patterson (2027), SS Cam Johnson (2028), LHP/OF Cooper Smith (2028), and RHP/OF Jace Loggins (2028)—are expected to compete for playing time. Though most of these players lack varsity experience, they are motivated and have had the chance to learn from last year's championship squad. With an emphasis on pitching and defense, the Valley Cubs aim to build on their championship legacy, despite the challenge of replacing many key contributors from 2024.

Competing in Class 4A this spring, the Valley Cubs only add to an already competitive field of teams set to battle for a state championship. They'll compete in Class 4A, Area 12 against Cherokee County, Cleburne County, and White Plains for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Valley Cubs to continue to improve over the course of the season as they gain experience and confidence on both sides of the ball in 2025.
