The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Baker Hornets have established themselves as one of the top programs in the Mobile area, making three consecutive appearances in the Class 7A quarterfinals. Building on their 29-win season in 2024, the Hornets are aiming to replicate that success and make an even deeper run in the 2025 Class 7A playoffs.

After finishing as the area champions and entering the playoffs winning of 23 of their previous 27 games, the Hornets hosted their first-round playoff series against Daphne. They swept the series 3-1 and 7-1 before traveling to face top-ranked Central-Phenix City in the state quarterfinals. Unfortunately, their season ended with a two-game loss, capping off a solid 29-8 record. Despite losing several key seniors, the Hornets are hopeful that newer faces can step into important roles and maintain their competitive edge in 2025. Offensively, senior RHP/INF Hunter Peavy (2025) and OF Spencer Stewart (2025) return after solid junior seasons, each hitting .300 or better. Peavy posted a .333 average with 3 doubles, a triple, and 15 RBIs, while Stewart contributed 4 doubles and 16 runs. Senior RHP/INF Pierce Rogers (2025) and LHP/OF Ransen Alexander (2025) are also expected to play key roles. Rogers aims to build on his junior campaign, where he batted .240 and notched 15 strikeouts in 8 innings, while Alexander, who hit .280, is poised to take on a larger role on the mound. One of the most promising players for the Hornets is RHP/1B Tate Graham (2027), a multi-sport athlete who played quarterback for the football team in the fall. As a freshman, Graham drove in 17 RBIs and went 4-0 on the mound with 11 strikeouts in 16 innings. Other underclassmen to watch include UTL Kaden Horton (2027) and OF/LHP Yaidel Orellano (2027). Horton had a standout late-season performance with a .583 batting average and 13 runs in limited action, while Orellano hit .247 with 14 RBIs and struck out 11 in 7 innings pitched. INF Brisyn Driskell (2028) and C/INF Carson Blair (2028) also have the potential to contribute this spring and will be key players for the program’s future.

With a blend of experienced seniors and promising underclassmen, the Baker Hornets are well-equipped for another competitive season in 2025. They'll compete in Class 7A, Area 1 against Alma Bryant, Davidson, and Mary G. Montgomery for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular seaosn. If the new faces can step up and fill critical roles, the Hornets have the potential to make another deep playoff run and continue their tradition of success in Class 7A.
