Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Baldwin County Tigers enter the 2025 season looking to continue their recent momentum in Class 6A, as Coach Higginbothem and co. have done an excellent job steering this program in the right direction. Looking back at three seasons ago where they went 8-19 and missed out on the playoffs to now coming off an Elite 8 appearance in a loaded field of teams in Class 6A last spring, the Tigers are only hoping they can continue to take steps forward within their program in 2025.

Hoping to prepare themselves for area play and the playoffs, the Tigers competed against a tough schedule that featured many playoff teams throughout various classifications. Finishing as the runner-up in their area behind Spanish Fort, the Tigers hit the road for the 1st round series, but were riding a hot streak going into the playoffs by winning 10 of their previous 11 games at that point. Facing a difficult task of traveling to Helena, one of the top teams in Class 6A last season, in their 1st round matchup was not easy but the Tigers were able to gut out a big series win by scores of 10-7 and 4-3. Advancing to the Sweet 16, Baldwin County was paired with Hueytown in their 2nd round matchup, and continued their hot streak by sweeping the Golden Gophers by scores of 3-2 and 16-0. The Tigers, however, were eliminated in the Elite 8 by Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, who would go on to finish as the runner-up, in a thrilling three-game series. Accumulating over 20 wins and a playoff appearance in back-to-back seasons, the Tigers look ready to take another step forward this spring and have some returning talent back on this year's roster. Shifting the focus to 2025, starting pitching appears to be one of their main team strengths heading into this season with five returning pitchers from last year's staff. They do lose their top two starters who went to play at the next level, but the stable of arms behind them look ready to step into big roles this spring. RHP/OF Jackson Paul (2025) is another of those talented returning pitchers from last year who has added some good weight in the off-season. As a junior last season, Paul tossed 47.2 IP and accumulated 42 Ks and a 1.90 ERA. He has good command of three pitches and should be near the top of their rotation. 3B/RHP Braydon Bryars (2026) is a two-way junior prospect who has quality two-way capabilities. Last year, the right-hander hit .323 with 14 RBIs, 25 BBs, and just 8 Ks at the plate. He is also a quality pitcher with a solid three-pitch mix on the mound. LHP/1B Aiden Owens (2025) and INF/RHP Reid Johnson (2025) are a pair of seniors who should hit toward the top of the Tiger order this spring and help out some on the mound. Owens accumulated a 1.40 ERA on the mound while hitting .270 with 2 HRs and 18 RBIs at the plate, and Johnson also had some valuable contributions hitting .283 with 9 2Bs and 31 Rs last year as a junior. Rounding it out, RHP Coen Lambeth (2026) will look to build off of his strong sophomore campaign where he was featured significantly out of the bullpen in some important spots. After throwing 28.1 IP and compiling 29 Ks and a 2.90 ERA, the physical right-hander looks ready to take on more innings this spring.

The Tigers once again look to be a scrappy, hard-nosed club this spring and have the returning talent to potentially make another run throughout the playoffs in Class 6A this spring. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 2 against Gulf Shores, McGill-Toolen, and Spanish Fort for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. There's plenty of reason for optimism this spring, as Baldwin County will look to build off of back-to-back 20-win seasons and a pair of playoff appearances in Class 6A in 2025.
