2025 Chelsea Hornets Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

With a wealth of returning experience, the Chelsea Hornets enter the 2025 season with high expectations, especially on the mound. With eight returning positional starters and eight returning pitchers, the team is loaded with veteran leadership and depth, particularly in the pitching staff. After narrowly missing the postseason in 2024 and moving down from Class 7A this year, the Hornets will look to take the next step and make a big push for the later rounds of the playoffs in Class 6A.

Chelsea's lineup is led by a strong senior class that includes several college-bound players. SS/RHP Chase Lackey (Gadsden State CC, 2025) and 3B/RHP Paxton Stallings (Coastal Alabama-South CC, 2025) provide leadership and production on both sides of the ball. OF/LHP Aiden Hughes (Coastal Alabama-South CC, 2025), OF Mack Breazeale (Southern Union CC, 2025) and OF Aiden Craven (2026) add athleticism to the outfield and depth to the offense. Behind the plate, C/RHP Cade Mims (Georgia Highlands CC, 2025) will be a key contributor both offensively and defensively. The pitching staff is a major strength and ranks at the top in the state of Alabama with multiple experienced arms returning. RHP Grant Hill (2026), RHP Silas Osbourn (2026), and Branson Hogan (2026) are a trio of right-handed pitchers who are all ranked inside the top-15 in Alabama's 2026 class and can reach the low-90s with their fastballs, while LHP Payton Hunsaker (Nicholls State, 2025) and RHP/INF Jackson Price (2026) are both talented upperclassmen to watch for this spring. Several underclassmen are expected to contribute this season. C Brandon Bousman (2027) is a young catcher with potential, while LHP/OF Jordan Garcia (2027), INF/RHP Grant Propst (2027), and INF/RHP Cooper Morgan (2027) will look to carve out roles at the varsity level and have bright futures ahead of the within the Hornets' program

With a deep pitching staff and a strong core of returning players, Chelsea is in a great position to compete at a high-level in Class 6A this season. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 7 against Helena, Pelham, and Spain Park for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. If the Hornets can capitalize on their experience and depth, they have the potential to make a serious push for the postseason in 2025.
