2025 Cherokee County Warriors Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Cherokee County Warriors boast a strong amount of returners coming this season who have plenty of varsity experience under their belt, especially on the mound. This year's group will hope to continue to build on a strong spring in 2024 where they missed the playoffs, but defeated some quality programs in the regular season and accumulated 17 wins on the season. Hopes are that those returners can help this team a playoff appearance in 2025.

The Warriors were a quality club in 2024, and while they missed out on the playoffs, they beat some talented teams in higher classifications. Some of those teams included Albertville, Pell City, Shades Valley, and others on their regular season schedule. The Warriors competed in one of the most difficult areas in Class 4A with Etowah, DAR, and North Jackson. Both Etowah and North Jackson have been known for making deep playoff runs year after year, and last year was no different. This spring, the Warriors move to Area 12 and are hoping they can be one of the two teams in the area to make the playoffs. The team this year appears to be a tight-knit group with team chemistry at an all-time high and most of the players having played with each other for years. Looking at some of the key returners this season, RHP/C Ben Elsberry (2025), INF/RHP Carson Tittle (2025), OF Luke Young (2025), and INF/RHP Parker Wilson (2025) are four seniors who should be the key leaders for this year's team. All bring back plenty of production at the plate and/or on the mound, and are looking to go our the right way as seniors this season. Shifting the focus to some underclassmen, OF/RHP Nate Black (2027) and INF/RHP Adam Griffith (2027) are a pair of sophomores who look ready to make a strong impact on this year's team. Overall team experience looks to be strong for this group, as they return seven positional starters and five pitchers from last year's team.

Looking to build off of last year's 17-11 record, the Warriors look to have a strong nucleus of returning upperclassmen and talented underclassmen to have a strong year this spring. They'll compete in Class 4A, Area 12 against Alexandria, Cleburne County, and White Plains for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. The Warriors will hope to be playing their best baseball down the stretch as they eye a Class 4A playoff appearance in 2025.
