2025 Corner Yellow Jackets Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Corner Yellow Jackets wrapped up a historic 2024 season by securing their first-ever state championship in Class 4A, finishing with an impressive 33-8 record. With a number of key seniors graduating and the team moving up to Class 5A this year, there’s a lot of change within the program. However, expectations remain high as they head into the 2025 season.

The Yellow Jackets have been consistently one of the top teams in Class 4A, making their way to the state finals by defeating Madison County, Etowah, Deshler, and Westminster Christian, posting an 8-1 record in the process. Their championship series against American Christian was a battle of two powerhouse teams. After losing Game 1 by a score of 7-2, the Yellow Jackets bounced back to win Games 2 and 3, 7-6 and 13-0, respectively, securing the program’s first state title. Heading into this season, there are several new faces eager to step up, as key seniors like Brendan Conner, Brodie Dunlap, Eli Cannon, and Cole Rasbury have moved on to college baseball. Despite the transition to Class 5A, the Yellow Jackets remain a formidable team, with their pitching staff expected to be one of their biggest strengths. On the mound, LHP Sam Hill (Wallace State CC, 2025) and RHP Cain Hogue (2026) will lead the rotation, with other arms providing depth throughout the season. Offensively, the team will rely on experienced players like C Jared Black (2025), OF Kolin Dunn (2025), OF Tanner Pritchett (2026), and OF Tyson Hill (2026). These upperclassmen should only improve as the season progresses and they settle into their respective roles. Additionally, RHP/SS Keaton Coffee (2027) stands out as one of the top underclassman prospects and is expected to make a significant impact both this spring and in the coming years.

While there may be some of unproven commodities may lack experience, the Yellow Jackets still have plenty of talent across the board with those players hungry to make an impact this spring. They'll compete in Class 5A, Area 12 against Center Point, Hayden, and Springville for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Looking to defend their title with a strong season, expect the Yellow Jackets to only continue to improve as the season goes on in 2025.
