Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

One of the top programs at the AISA level, the Edgewood Academy Wildcats enter the 2025 season with plenty of optimism after recording over 25 wins and reaching the AISA State Championship in 2024. Building on that momentum, the Wildcats also bring back nearly all of their offensive lineup and have numerous returning pitchers who bring back tons of experience to this year's team, which hopes to bust down the door and capture a Class AA State Championship in 2025.

After reaching the Final 4 and going 22-18 in 2023, the Wildcats carried that momentum in 2024 where they posted a 26-12 record and reached the Class AA State Championship. In that series, the Wildcats faced off against Lakeside School and were unfortunately defeated in two games to close out their season as the runner-up. They did, however, take another step forward during last year's season and hope to be able to make that one final step by winning a state championship at the end of the season. Still plenty of work to be done and baseball to be played, there's still plenty to be excited about if you're Coach Jones & co., as they return seven positional starters and seven pitchers from last year's runner-up squad. Offense and defense appears to be two of this team's main strengths, and it all seems to start with a trio of returning hitters who hit over .400 in batting average last season. INF/RHP Brock Whitt (2026) is a physical right-hander in the middle of the order who hit .405 with 45 Hs, 24 XBHs, 5 HRs, 43 RBIs, & 50 Rs during his sophomore campaign, while C Parker Shaw (2025) also enjoyed a big season hitting .434 with 16 XBHs and 30 RBIs as a junior. INF/RHP Ethan Evans (2025) is another returning offensive upperclassmen who should also anchor the heart of the order for the Wildcats. As a junior, the right-hander hit .407 with 46 Hs, 14 XBHs, 2 HRs, 34 RBIs, & 42 Rs. All three of these experienced upperclassmen returners are expecting to have big years once again in 2025. RHP Garrett Myers (2025) and UTL Cooper Freeman (2025) are two more talented seniors to add to the mix of players the Wildcats will be depending on this season. Myers should throw a significant amount of innings on the mound, while Freeman posted a .330 batting average as a junior in 2024. OF/LHP Colten Lashley (2027) should be another key piece for this year's team and is looking poised to build off of a solid freshman campaign. In 2024, Lashley hit .253 with 19 RBIs, 19 Rs, & 10 SBs. Expect Lashley to continue to improve this season, as he continues to get more experience under his belt as one of the top underclassmen in the Wildcats' program.

The season of 2025 looks to be shaping up like another successful one for the Wildcats as they look to make it back to the Class AA AISA State Championship. There's plenty of production returning on both sides of the ball for this year's team and appear to be one of the main contenders once again. Expect Edgewood Academy to continue to build off of last year's success as they aim to capture a Class AA State Championship in 2025.
