2025 Fayetteville Wolves Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Fayetteville Wolves head into the 2025 season with high expectations, looking to build on last year’s success after making the Class 2A playoffs and finishing as area runner-up. With a large portion of their roster returning, the Wolves are well-positioned for another strong campaign in their first season competing at the Class 1A level.

Finishing as the runner-up behind Vincent, the top-ranked team in Class 2A for most of the season, the Wolves faced a tough challenge in the first round of the playoffs against Whitesburg Christian. Despite their efforts, Fayetteville dropped both games in closely contested matchups, losing 3-2 and 5-1, ending the season with a 13-17 record. With seven positional starters and six pitchers returning, the Wolves are hopeful that their experienced core will lead them to a deeper playoff run in 2025. Junior 3B/RHP Ethan Jones (2026) is looking for a bounce-back year after undergoing season-ending surgery just six games into the previous season. Despite the early setback, he hit .350 with two home runs in those games and is eager to build on that performance. OF/RHP Braydon Williams (2025) is another key returner, coming off a standout season where he posted a 1.90 ERA and struck out 64 batters in 50 innings. He’s continued to develop in the offseason and is expected to play a major role this spring. C/RHP Brenton Cantrell (2026) will take on the everyday catching duties after a strong sophomore campaign, hitting .356, and he’s also poised to contribute as a top arm in the rotation. Looking at the underclassmen, OF/RHP Eli Burns (2027) returns as an everyday starter after posting a .350 batting average in his freshman season, while OF/RHP Connor Crumpton (2027) adds another experienced sophomore, finishing with a .292 average last year. 3B/RHP Blake McDaniel (2027) and SS/RHP Carter Goins (2027) also bring valuable experience back to the lineup, and 1B Brayden Wood (2027) looks to step in and solidify the first base position this season.

With a strong mix of returning talent and key underclassmen ready to step up, the Fayetteville Wolves are poised for a competitive 2025 season. They'll compete in Class 1A, Area 8 against Talladega County Central, Wadley, Winterboro, and Woodland for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. If their core contributors stay healthy and perform at a high level, the Wolves could be a formidable force in Class 1A this spring.
