2025 Florala Wildcats Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

As the 2025 season kicks off, the Florala Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the Class 1A Poll, following a strong 25-3 record and a trip to the Class 1A Final 4 in 2024. With a significant portion of last year's roster returning on both offense and defense, the Wildcats are poised for another successful season in 2025.

Entering the playoffs with just one loss—coming from an out-of-state opponent—the Wildcats were considered one of the top contenders for the Class 1A State Championship. After easily defeating Calhoun, Millry, and Brantley, Florala advanced to the Final 4, where they faced Sweet Water with a trip to the state finals on the line. Unfortunately, Sweet Water claimed the decisive Game 3, ending the Wildcats' season at 25-3. Looking ahead to this spring, the Wildcats return seven positional starters and five pitchers from last year, making them a top contender once again in Class 1A. Leading the charge is 1B/RHP Dalton Jackson (Coastal Alabama-North CC, 2025), the reigning Class 1A Hitter of the Year. In 2024, Jackson posted an impressive .579 batting average with 8 home runs, while also going 5-1 with 51 strikeouts on the mound. Another standout returner is OF/LHP Easton Walsh (Lurleen B. Wallace CC, 2026), who earned Class 2A 2nd Team All-State honors as a sophomore. Walsh hit .418 at the plate and dominated on the mound with an 8-2 record, a 0.97 ERA, and 117 strikeouts. Also expected to make a big impact this spring are 3B/RHP Jacob Laura (2026), 1B/RHP Ayden Brooks (2026), and OF Rayshon Coleman (2025). All three returning hitters posted averages over .250 in 2024 and are poised for even bigger performances this season. Also looking to have a spring this season will be INF Noah Bryan (2027), who is one of the top underclassmen in their program.

With a solid core of returning players and a proven track record, the Florala Wildcats are poised for another strong season in 2025. They'll compete in Class 1A, Area 2 against Emmanuel Christian, Kinston, and Pleasant Home for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. As they set their sights on the Class 1A State Championship, the Wildcats' blend of talent and depth makes them a top contender for the title once again in Class 1A.
