2025 Grissom Tigers Team Preview

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Grissom Tigers are heading into the 2025 season with the goal of building on last year's success, having secured an area championship and hosted the 1st round of the Class 7A playoffs. With many key players returning, the Tigers are poised to be one of the top Class 7A teams in northern Alabama this spring.

In a highly competitive area, the Tigers managed to edge out Sparkman and claim the area championship at the end of the regular season. They hosted James Clemens in their 1st round playoff series but fell short in a close matchup, losing by scores of 7-6 and 8-6, which ended their season with a 22-15 record. However, this year’s team has the potential to be just as strong, if not better, with six positional starters and five pitchers returning from the 2024 squad. Leading the charge is SS/RHP Charlie Cassingham (South Alabama, 2025), a varsity starter since his freshman year, who is expected to make an impact on both sides of the ball this spring. SS/RHP Joshua Burrell (Calhoun CC, 2025), a talented senior, will contribute both offensively and on the mound, while 3B/RHP Jackson Davis (Wallace-Selma CC, 2025) and 1B/RHP Garrett Blacklock (2025) bring valuable infield experience. OF Zach Shipp (Central Alabama CC, 2025), who had a strong junior season, will be a key part of their offense, and OF/RHP Griffin Grigsby (2026) is another upperclassman who looks set to be a major asset to the team this year. RHP/UTL Dalton Dardin (2027), one of their top underclassmen, has flashed at multiple Prep Baseball events over the past few months with a fastball that has reached 88 mph, and could have a chance to throw some important innings this spring.

With a strong core of returning players and a solid mix of experience and talent, the Tigers are poised for another successful season in 2025. They'll compete in Class 7A, Area 7 against Albertville, Huntsville, and Sparkman for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. As they look to build on last year’s success, the Tigers will be aiming to take their game to the next level and make a potential playoff run at the end of the season.
