2025 Gulf Shores Dolphins Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Moving up to Class 6A this spring, the Gulf Shores Dolphins will be joining an already stacked field of teams in the classification. After a successful 28-win season last year, the Dolphins are looking to build on that momentum and are poised for another strong campaign in southern Alabama.

Finishing as the area champion for the fourth straight season, the Dolphins hosted the 1st round of the playoffs, and defeated Beauregard by scores of 8-3 and 2-0. Advancing to the Sweet 16, the Dolphins would hit the road and travel to a Tallassee squad that had been on a hot streak leading into the playoffs. In a thrilling three-game series, the Dolphins were ultimately eliminated in the deciding Game 3 to close out their season with a 28-12 record. Returning back to Class 6A this spring, the Dolphins will rely on some newer faces to fill some holes, but should still play to the standard they're used to playing at year after year. Looking at some notable returners, SS/RHP John Luke Stephens (2026), C/OF Price Stephens (2026), and OF Jacob O'Bryan (2026) are all returning starters that experienced plenty of success during their sophomore campaigns in 2024. Stephens went 6-2 on the mound and hit .297 offensively with 27 RBIs, while Stephens drove in 15 runs and O'Bryant hit .327 in batting average with 16 RBIs. SS/RHP Jud Harris (2027) is a top-10 prospect in Alabama's 2027 class and is looking to build off of a solid freshman season. Harris hit .267 with 3 2Bs, a 3B, and 9 RBIs at the plate and is expecting an even bigger year this season. RHP Hayden Brazil (2025) should also be a key arm for the Dolphins after tossing 22 IP and getting 3 SVs on the mound in 2024. OF Nate Perez (2025) also got some playing time and is expected to see his role expand this spring. As a junior, the right-hander hit .273 and scored 17 times. Looking at a few key underclassmen who have bright futures ahead of them, RHP/1B Woods McElroy (2027) and RHP John Williams Nix (2028) both have a chance to see some innings at the varsity level this spring.

With a strong core of returning players and an infusion of talented underclassmen, the Gulf Shores Dolphins are set to make a competitive splash in Class 6A this spring. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 2 against Baldwin County, McGill-Toolen, and Spanish Fort for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Dolphins to be right in the mix of playoff contention in a tough area in Class 6A in 2025.
