Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Hamilton Aggies enter the new season with a strong group of returners from last year's playoff team, many of whom gained valuable experience as underclassmen in 2024. With hopes of those players taking a step forward this spring, the Aggies are aiming to build on their 19-win season and their appearance in the Class 4A playoffs, setting their sights on another successful campaign.

The Aggies finished as the runner-up in their area behind a powerhouse Deshler team, and they faced a tough challenge in the opening round of the postseason, traveling to Haleyville. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the Lions, ending their season with a 19-13 record. Throughout the year, Hamilton relied on a strong group of freshmen and a few standout juniors, all of whom are returning with key varsity experience. These players are poised to elevate the team’s performance in 2025, with hopes for a deeper postseason run. The Aggies return seven positional starters and seven pitchers, making them a formidable team in Class 4A once again. Leading the way is SS/RHP Mason Holloway (2027), a standout underclassman who made an immediate impact during his freshman year. Earning Class 4A 2nd Team All-State honors, Holloway hit .446 with 19 RBIs, 40 runs, and 27 stolen bases in 2024. He’s also expected to make significant strides on the mound this season. OF/LHP Coley Gilstrap (2027) and INF/RHP Houston Tibbs (2027) also return after strong freshman campaigns, each hitting over .310 at the plate. Both are expected to be key contributors in the heart of the lineup and provide crucial innings for the pitching staff. UTL Tripp Summers (2027), C/RHP Jackson Chandler (2027) and OF/RHP Brady Cantrell (2027) are also expected to play important roles, offering solid contributions both offensively and defensively. The only senior on the roster, LHP/OF Sam Ballard (2025), brings valuable experience, returning with a 5-0 record, 2 saves, and a 2.83 ERA from his junior season. Rounding out the roster are 1B/RHP Josiah Wilbanks (2027), INF/RHP Eli Nelson (2027), and OF Dylan Frederick (2026), all of whom will compete for starting spots early in the season and play key roles for the Aggies as they look to build on their success in 2025.

With a solid mix of returning underclassmen and a key senior leader, the Aggies are poised to build on their 2024 success and make a deeper run in the postseason this spring. They'll compete in Class 4A, Area 10 against Curry, Fayette County, and Haleyville for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. As the team continues to develop and gain experience, the Aggies will be a formidable force in the upcoming season, with their sights set on a stronger playoff push in 2025.
