2025 Hazel Green Trojans Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Hazel Green Trojans enter the 2025 season looking to take a step forward after finishing 14-25 and exiting in the first round of the playoffs last year. With only three returning positional starters and two returning pitchers, the Trojans will rely on their strengths—team speed and defense—to compete in a tough Class 6A, Area 16. Despite their inexperience, a group of promising young players and a handful of key returners give Hazel Green an opportunity to develop into a competitive squad as the season progresses.

Leading the way is RHP/SS Israel Navarro (2025), who will be a critical two-way player, providing leadership both on the mound and in the infield. OF Jaden Charles (2025) will help anchor the lineup with his speed and defensive ability in the outfield. RHP/INF Bryce Zimmerman (2026), RHP/INF Andrew Beaverson (2026), and RHP/INF Colton Clark (2027) are all expected to take on expanded roles this season, with each contributing on both sides of the ball. RHP/OF Cole Ziak (2027) is another returning player who could play a key role in both the rotation and the outfield. In addition to their top returners, OF Evan Russell (2025) and RHP/UTL Brooks Harris (2026) bring valuable experience, while RHP Elijah Steele (2026) adds depth to the pitching staff. The Trojans will also lean on a group of underclassmen to step up, including RHP/1B Hayden Schell (2027), RHP/UTL Kolton Bentley (2027), and LHP/OF Ty Hunter (2028), all of whom could make an immediate impact.

With a relatively young roster, the Trojans will look to some of last year's returners to take a step forward after gaining experience and have the potential to develop into a solid competitor in Class 6A. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 16 against Buckhorn, Columbia, Lee-Huntsville, and Mae Jemison for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect Hazel Green to take a sizable step forward this spring and be a competitive club once again in 2025.
